EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, CANCER SUPPORT COMMUNITY WASHINGTON D.C.
Washington, DC, Partially Remote

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The Executive Director, Cancer Support Community (CSC) Washington, DC reports to CSC’s Chief Experience Officer (CXO). The Executive Director position will oversee all aspects of CSC DC and ensure the delivery of high quality, impactful support to people touched by cancer. The role includes directing staff and volunteers, managing the business of CSC DC, and serving as the key liaison with community and healthcare partners.

Major responsibilities of this role include:

  • Financial and operational management
  • Fundraising activities
  • Management of a broad range of relationships, including the CSC advisory board, community members, and the public at large
  • Program development and growth, complying with CSC’s national standards and interacting with CSC headquarters staff and executive directors at other Gilda’s Club/CSC facilities

The ideal candidate will possess highly effective management, interpersonal, and written and verbal communication skills. They will collaborate effectively with internal teams and outside institutions and will engage diverse stakeholders, funders, and professional membership organizations. This role is a fit for a highly motivated and engaged individual who possesses the ability to complete multiple tasks and deliverables within tight timeframes.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and manage a talented staff who will deliver CSC’s program, raise funds, and manage the operations of a stand-alone facility serving people living with cancer and their loved ones
  • Formulate, initiate, and administer policies and procedures for effective fiscal and operational control
  • Develop and manage a development and fundraising plan to ensure the financial stability of CSC DC
  • Based on the CSC model, develop a suite of services and programs
  • Recruit and manage volunteers, including members of an advisory board
  • Develop and manage multi-year budgets for programming and operations
  • Understand and plan for external financial and political impacts
  • Build strong relationships and collaborations across diverse groups, both internal and external
  • Present frequently to various stakeholders on the availability of programming at CSC DC

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum qualifications include a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
  • Leadership experience of a similar size organization, preferably in a not-for-profit setting, with demonstrated management of business fundamentals
  • Flawless execution skills, including ability to prioritize and manage multiple and diverse projects concurrently
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills
  • Proactive, creative, and strategic thinker
  • High integrity, honesty, and accountability
  • Passion for the Cancer Support Community mission

WORK LOCATION
The position will be located in Washington, DC and will require in-person work once the CSC DC’s facility is operational and it is safe to open from a public health perspective. There will be the possibility of some limited remote work.
