Position Summary
Under the general supervision of the Vice President of Operations of Wesley Woods Senior Living, Inc., the Executive Director leads the development and administrative operations of a large, complex retirement community, including components of a Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) or Life Plan community.
In collaboration with other Wesley Woods Communities and its services, the Executive Director effectively manages the programs and services of the retirement community leading a culture of person directed care that meets or exceeds resident expectations. The Executive Director is accountable for the programmatic and financial operation of the community ensuring compliance with governmental regulations and certification standards; leading, managing and supporting the employees and volunteers of the community; and for the development and management of a market-oriented program of care and services.
Key Responsibilities
1. Plans and Develops
- Long - term and short-term strategic plans for the retirement community in conjunction with the Vice President of Operations.
- Develops plans for new service at the community including licenses, permits, professional consulting, staffing, funding, etc. as needed.
- Maintains a current understanding of the work of Wesley Woods and overall strategic plan, mission, vision, and values.
2. Operation of the Community
- Operates the community with a philosophy of Person-Centered Care.
- Effectively meeting or exceeding established regulatory requirements of the governmental agencies that oversee and regulate the service provided at the community.
- Directs the day-to-day administrative and management functions for all aspects of the community and staff, including dining and nutrition, physical plant, and resident programs to meet or exceed resident expectation.
3. Develop and Oversee Community
- Managing community operating and capital budgets; obtaining approval from WWSL administration, appropriate boards, and governmental agencies.
- Develops and maintains needed processes and programs to successfully grow revenue and monitor expense to accomplish the mission of Wesley Woods.
4. Managing Staff
- Manages residential staff of 50-100 employees in accordance with WWSL Human Resources policies, providing competent and consistent leadership throughout the employment life cycle.
- Ensures staff are appropriately equipped and trained to effectively deliver the programs and services to residents.
- Ensures ongoing employee development through educational offerings as appropriate.
5. Cultivating and Maintaining Relationships
- Cultivates and maintains positive relationships with community and civic leaders.
- Works closely with Foundation staff members, Board, and volunteers on strategic and fundraising activities, cultivating relationships with established and prospective donors.
- Represents Wesley Woods as a subject matter expert as appropriate, making presentation to appropriate community groups, donor groups or churches.
6. Implements
- Implements and monitors corporate policies and procedures relating to safety, risk management, finance, human resources, and fund raising.
- Assists in the development of company-wide policies and procedures, updating as needed.
7. Oversee Construction
- Oversee construction, installation, or repair of capital improvements to community property.
- Leads the planning and implementation of construction and repair projects as needed and appropriate to deliver the programs and services to residents of the community.
8. Reports and Documentation
- Provides reports and/or related documents and materials to senior staff as needed.
- Maintains and provides appropriate documentation as required.
9. Professional Development
- Pursues training and development opportunities.
- Attend educational opportunities to keep current in development important to the success of the program and to future strategic planning.
10. Complies with Wesley Woods’s standards of conduct and job-related behavior standards.
- Demonstrates consistent and exceptional professional work behavior.
- Attends required courses and training.
- Complies with annual employee health assessments.
- Maintains acceptable attendance standards.
Additional Information
This position reports to the Vice President of Operations of WWSL and this position operates in a professional office environment in a residential retirement community that manages programs requiring 24-hour, seven days a week oversight. This role uses standard office equipment.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Hospitality, or related field. Masters preferred.
- Seven or more years of progressive leadership experience in senior living, hospitality, long term care or related experience. Experience with a Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) or Life plan community preferred.
- Skilled Nursing Home Administrator Licensed required.
- Excellent planning, organizational and analytical skills.
- Ability to perform responsibilities without direct supervisor; determining appropriate actions and execute effective solutions.
- Proven progressive leadership and management skills, collaboratively managing a diverse staff.
- Knowledge of technical requirement of appropriate government regulations applicable to the community, budgeting, marketing, and planning.
- Effective computer skills, including word processing, spreadsheets, and graphics.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communications skills; able to make presentations to a variety of people.
- Ability to travel and participate in off-site meetings.
