POSITION SUMMARY
Directs the nursing process, functions and those duties therein center wide for Hamilton Center, Inc. Assists the Chief Medical Officer and Executive Director of 24-Hour Services in the development of a proposed budget for the center wide Nursing Services Program and manages her (his) portion of the program within that budget as approved. Maintains and ensures quality nursing standards are available and applied throughout Hamilton Center, Inc. at all times.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

- Provide direct supervision of inpatient, outpatient, satellite and group home Nurses and Medical Assistants as well as all other staff assigned to the inpatient unit and Medline. This includes hiring, evaluating, counseling, coaching and scheduling to ensure qualified employees.
- Assure Hamilton Center’s compliance with nursing standards and regulations set forth by accrediting bodies, grantors, and government.
- Assure nursing care standards, standards of practice policies, procedures and protocol are adhered to.
- Assure that all Nursing staff and Medical Assistants are competent to fulfill their assigned responsibilities.
- Assure that the nursing care needs of all Hamilton Center consumers are assessed, evaluated and met.
- Assure there are sufficient qualified Nursing and Medical Assisting staff to meet the nursing care needs of the consumers.
- Assure implementation of an effective and ongoing program to monitor, evaluate and improve the quality and appropriateness of nursing care delivered to all consumers of Hamilton Center, Inc.
- Ability to demonstrate competent use of Essentia.
- Conduct Nursing and Medical Assisting staff meetings
- Ensure Nurses and Medical Assistants are trained to their specific job duties
- Provide consultation regarding nursing practices at Hamilton Center Inc.
- Participate in the admissions and discharge process in order to coordinate consumer requirements for nursing care with the available nursing resources.
- Participate in management meetings, medical staff meetings and staff meetings in other clinical areas to ensure professional nursing input in the decision-making processes of the Center.
- Participate in the development of Hamilton Center's mission, strategic plans, budgets, resource allocation, operation plans, and policies.
- Participate along with other leaders of the Center in planning, promoting, and conducting center-wide quality monitoring and improvement activities.
- Develop and implement an ongoing program to promote the recruitment, retention, development and continuing education of nursing staff members.
- Participate in the evaluating, selecting and integrating of healthcare technology and information systems that support patient care needs and the utilization of nursing resources.
- Establish and maintain positive working relationships with members of the community, other human service providers and employees of the Center.
- Oversee nursing student placements in the outpatient setting.
- Actively participates and maintains The Joint Commission and other Accreditation service standards.
- Oversees/manages Program and Nursing staff.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position directly supervises Nurses and Medical Assistants assigned to inpatient, outpatient, satellite, group homes and medline as well as other staff assigned to the inpatient unit. This includes hiring, evaluating, counseling, coaching and scheduling to ensure qualified employees.
Supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Hamilton Center’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS
- A minimum of an associate degree from an accredited school of nursing. Master’s degree in psychiatric nursing or related field preferred.
- Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in nursing administration and/or dedicated leadership experience in psychiatric nursing.
- Knowledge and skills in psychiatric nursing care and patient management.
- Supervisory skills such as personnel management, fiscal management, facility management, clinical supervision, public relations, analysis, interpretation, evaluation, interpersonal skills and teaching/training methodology.
- A thorough knowledge of The Joint Commission, HCFA, OSHA regulations and all state and federal regulatory standards.
- Willingness to use personal transportation in work capacity.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
- Licensed as a Registered Nurse by the Indiana State Board of Nursing
- Valid Driver’s License in accordance with motor vehicle policy
- Maintain current American Red Cross CPR and AED certifications
- Maintain current CPI/crisis prevention/intervention certification
- Maintain TB screening certification.

Exposure to disturbed and potentially aggressive patients is possible. Stress ranges from low to intense depending on situation.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Environment is a hospital like atmosphere. Space may necessitate the sharing of offices. Time is spent daily on the unit for the purpose of increasing awareness of pressing needs, issues, and development of staff. Usually works days, however, times may vary due to the needs of staff and/or consumers. Stress at times, due to the nature of middle management, coverage needs of the units and the pressures of State funding.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
- Completion of tuberculin screening no later than three days prior to first day of employment and annually thereafter
- Completion of MMR, Varicella, influenza and coronavirus vaccine
- Satisfactory reference and background investigation checks.
- Completion of a pre-employment drug screening and completion of post-employment drug or alcohol tests upon reasonable suspicion of use.
- Completion of Center-wide orientation and ALL required paperwork prior to reporting for work
- Demonstrated computer literacy through successful completion of pre-employment testing may be required.
- Satisfactory completion of HCI Supervisor Training program within 6 months of hire.
- Completion of HCI Commitment to Quality training, Trauma Informed Care, and Relias Learning.
- Attendance at all mandatory staff development and training
- Successful completion of a six month on the job orientation period
- Participation in payroll electronic deposit
- Adherence to Compliance Program Plan
