Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy (www.pharmacy.unc.edu) is one of five health science schools (Pharmacy, Nursing, Dentistry, Public Health, Medicine) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and is one of the oldest health science academic programs at Chapel Hill. The Division of Pharmaceutical Outcomes and Policy (DPOP) prepares graduates for leadership positions in academia, industry, and government sectors. Students develop solid research skills, enabling them to conduct high quality research directed at improving the use and cost-effectiveness of pharmaceutical products, technology, and services in society. DPOP is committed to excellence in research, education, and service that advances the optimal use of medications with the goal of improving human health regionally and nationally. Our research focuses on health outcomes and how to support medication taking at the individual, practice, and system level.

Position Summary
The Executive Assistant (EA) position provides executive support for the Chair and other Division leaders (Vice Chairs and Regional Associate Dean of Eastern North Carolina) in the Division of Pharmaceutical Outcomes and Policy (DPOP) and reports directly to the Chair of DPOP. The Regional Associate Dean for Eastern North Carolina is also based in DPOP. The EA is responsible for providing calendar and email support, event planning, travel itineraries and reimbursements, and office management. The latter includes supporting the Division’s human resource- and budgetary-related activities as well as external communications via voice, written and social media correspondence. In addition to overseeing the administrative functions of the Chair, Vice Chairs, and Regional Associate Dean of Eastern North Carolina; follows up to ensure that assignments/requests/commitments of these offices are accurate, consistent, and completed prior to deadlines and are of high quality. The EA is responsible for independent problem solving, answering questions, providing information and taking action on behalf of the Chair and faculty leaders as authorized. Additionally, the EA will perform an extensive range of highly visible activities such as communication with various university and external constituents at multiple levels and implementation of school strategic initiatives. The position will also coordinate with Human Resources to establish and fill positions. The EA will coordinate the Eastern NC advisory board meetings, which occur twice yearly in-person in Eastern NC and twice yearly via Zoom. The EA must analyze, prioritize, and keep track of multiple pieces of complex and often confidential information in order to make accurate, efficient recommendations regarding workflow, and provide facilitation and processing of information and verbal and written correspondence. The EA exhibits a high degree of professionalism in their work, including when interacting with internal and external constituents.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
High school diploma or equivalency and three years of progressively responsible administrative/office management experience; or Associate’s degree in secretarial science, business administration, or a related discipline and one year of progressively responsible administrative/office management experience ; or Bachelor’s degree, preferably in business administration or a related discipline; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
3-5 years of administrative experience in a higher education environment is preferred. Previous exposure to business and scientific/research operations is a plus.
