We are currently seeking an Excavator Operator who will be responsible for maximizing raw material quality through proper loading of logs into water vats, unloading of logs onto conveyors to the lathing department, and keeping the outside area clean of debarked material.

This role will also assist in maintaining an organized flow of material through the log conditioning area for the purpose of maximizing the value of all material by processing logs.

In this role, it is crucial that you have a strong sense of safety and an unparalleled attention to detail to ensure that orders are met and raw materials are properly conditioned and processed.

Duties and Responsibilities*

Duties include, but are not limited to:

• Safely and efficiently operate the boom/excavator and vat heating system. Ensure safety of the vat heating system area.
• Ensure all vats are loaded per the daily and weekly schedule.
• Pace logs through the vat area with minimum heat loss, while maintaining optimum production to ensure no downtime.
• Maintain a working knowledge of all equipment and the safety rules associated with the operations of equipment which includes but is not limited to excavator, log truck, tractors, clam, chain saws, grading station, sprinkling systems and assist associate staff in the safe use of these tools.
• Be able to use standard measuring tools to determine length and diameter of logs as well as cant hooks, chain saws and other related tools required to sort through, move and evaluate logs.
• Deliver logs as required to and from the hot water vat system and debarker as required by production schedules. Ensure vats covers are firmly and adequately in place while logs are heating or vats are not in use. Maintain water temperature throughout the day to minimize heat loss.
• Take care to clean each vat thoroughly as required by the cleaning procedure.

Qualifications and Proficiencies*

• Must have experience within the last 3-5 years of operating an excavator
• Experience operating a clam is preferred
• Must exhibit strong time management skills
• Strong sense of responsibility and safety
