Responsibilities
Under the direction of the Department Director and/or Registered Nurse, assists nursing personnel in maintaining required medical record documentation, as well as administrative/clerical processes surrounding the daily operations of the Nursing Unit. Monitors the central cardiac monitoring station, and alerts appropriate members of the healthcare team to the presence of problematic and/or potentially lethal arrhythmias.

- Greets the public and customers in a kind and courteous manner. Answers the phone by introducing self with a smile. Demonstrates an understanding and respect of patient rights and responsibilities. Provides care in a manner that is cognizant of, and respectful towards the religious, cultural, linguistic and ethnic belief systems of the patient and their identified family structure. Obtains translation services for oral communication and/or written instructions in the patient's primary language as directed by the nurse. Demonstrates an understanding and respect of patient's rights and responsibilities. Assures that all patient charts and papers are protected from public view
- Data Collection Assists members of the healthcare team in assuring a complete and accurate medical record. Prepares patients charts and is attendant to paperwork for admissions, transfers, and discharges. Secures old patient charts from medical records as required. Integrates reports and data from other departments (Lab, Pharmacy, Radiology, etc) into the patient's medical record in a timely fashion. Accurately transcribes physician's orders from the medical record into the computer order entry system. Brings urgent or STAT orders to the attention of the appropriate staff member in a timely manner. Data collection is done in accordance with and within timeframes specified in MMC polices.
- Recognizes normal and expected findings appropriate to the developmental age (infant, toddler, preschooler, school age, adolescent, early adult, middle adult and geriatric) of the patient. Recognizes significant abnormalities and intervenes in a developmentally age appropriate (infant, toddler, preschooler, school age, adolescent, early adult, middle adult and geriatric) manner and reports them to the RN.
- Collects information to contribute to database to identify patient's high risk for falls and/or skin breakdown. Utilizes appropriate developmental age (infant, toddler, preschooler, school age, adolescent, early adult, middle adult and geriatric) tools and criteria in the assessment of pain. Provides for patient safety and comfort, practices infection and environmental control. Prioritizes tasks based on patient needs. Participates in patient safety goals & quality initiatives. Understands and can apply criteria to detect possible victims of abuse. Performs care with in the scope of the ER Tech as directed by the nurse and described by the ENA.
Qualifications
Minimum:
- Must possess and maintain a current Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate
- Must possess or complete a Basic EKG course within 6 months of hire
- Experience as a MA, EMT, CNA or equivalence
- Familiarity with computer operations
Preferred:
- Prior experience as a ER Tech, Unit Clerk and/or Monitor Technician
- Previous experience with EKG equipment, able to perform EKG's
- Prior acute care or emergency experience a plus
- Medical terminology
