SUMMARY:

The Finishing Loader Operator must be able to effectively catch, inspect, and load lightweight printed sheets of paper on a high speed folding machine. They must demonstrate the ability to operate this equipment at established rates of speed.

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES (THE “WHAT”):

  • Catching/Inspection
    • Able to catch folded literature off the delivery end of each folder, replace pieces that are out of tolerance, and maintain an even count per finished tray of product.
    • Effectively conduct periodic inspections of folded literature for common defects (most of which are listed on an attribute tracking sheet).
    • Routinely verify batch count.
    • Performs these functions in a safe manner.
  • Loading
    • Able to effectively load flat literature product on all folders in the department.
    • Effectively conduct periodic inspections of the flat literature for common defects (most of which are listed on an attribute tracking sheet).
  • Operator
    • Ability to keep machines running once set up, which includes knowing how to do the following:
    • Start/stop machines
    • Perform basic glue system troubleshooting
    • Recognize and address paper related issues, such as excessive curling in the paper
    • Able to assist set up operator to rapidly perform a make-ready.
    • Able to assist set up operator in the performance of preventive maintenance.
    • Able to retrieve and interpret information from the job ticket and specification, as well as capture quality checks through electronic or written documentation.
    • Effectively label, palletize, and weigh (sample) trays.
    • Able to make trays while running folders and still keep speeds consistent off folder

  • The ability to understand defects which may be encountered in the manufacturing of printed and folded literature.
  • A positive attitude and good attendance with the willingness to work overtime on short notice.
  • Team player that believes safety must always be practiced and be a priority.
  • Good hand-to-eye coordination to feed or catch product in a fast paced production setting.
  • Accurate reporting in the ERP system and on other documentation.
  • An eye for detail will be critical for detecting quality imperfections during production.
  • The ability to make acceptable quality decisions while under production pressures.
  • Mentoring skills for training new and inexperienced members of your team.
  • Physical Requirements: Twisting, turning, grasping, squeezing, periods of extended standing, ability to lift up to 40 pounds
