Magnolia River has an immediate need for GIS Technicians to oversee the collection of GPS data used to create digital as-built drawings for the utility industry. You will collect data using Locusview equipment to record Tracking and Traceability data of utility company assets.

If you do not have natural gas experience that is ok! We will provide comprehensive training to prepare you for the job. Magnolia River Services, Inc. (Magnolia River) was founded in 2000 and is headquartered in Decatur, Alabama. Magnolia River is an engineering, inspection, GIS, software, and consulting company focused on the utilities, oil and gas, water, and pipeline infrastructure industries.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE GIS Technician

  • Prepare, collect, organize, and input data to maintain and enhance Geographic Information Systems (GIS) database including field research and GPS data collection and processing.
  • Assist with interpreting as-built drawings, construction plans, engineering plans, recorded maps, deeds, legal descriptions, imagery, and related source documents and incorporate them into GIS through various methods including digitizing.
  • Assist in the maintenance of GIS layers including parcels, easements, right-of-way, other development layers, interior space and utility infrastructure (i.e. water and sewer system) layers.
  • Follow quality assurance (QA) and quality control (QC) processes, and perform routine data management tasks, such as data validation and correction, queries and editing in GIS to ensure GIS data accuracy, integrity, and completeness.
  • Assist with GIS and data analysis, prepare and execute queries, produce maps, spreadsheets, graphs, and other analytical reports.

Requirements of the GIS Technician

  • Valid driver’s license
  • Excellent computer and communication skills
  • Experience with Locusview
  • Knowledge of GIS as it relates to Local Government, Public Works, and Civil Engineering

Pay: $22.00 - $23.00 per hour
