Title: English Department Chair - Methuen High School

OUR MISSION:

Methuen Public Schools enrolls approximately 7000 in a total of five schools. Methuen Public Schools has four PK-8 schools: the Comprehensive Grammar School, the Marsh Grammar School, the Tenney Grammar School, the Timony Grammar School, and one comprehensive high school: Methuen High School. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

• 
  Massachusetts teaching license (English 8-12) and supervisor/director license with SEI endorsement
• Master’s degree from an accredited institution in related field
• Bilingual preferred - Primary languages spoken in the community are: English, Spanish, Arabic, and French.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Five years of experience teaching English preferred
• Strong knowledge of MA Language Arts and Literacy Framework
• Familiarity with preparing teachers and students for MCAS testing
• Proven ability to model instruction and train and mentor professional staff
• Ability to effectively work as a member of an administrative team, to collaborate with colleagues, and to self-reflect
• Ability to lead department and/or school wide initiatives
• Demonstrated leadership skills
• Strong communication skills
• Willingness to stay current on research pertaining to ELA and literacy instruction

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Oversee the programming and instruction for the English Department at MHS
• Supervise and evaluate ELA teachers, media specialist, and intervention tutors at MHS
• Assist in the selection of instructional materials and resources
• Assist in preparation of reports and recommendations as requested by the Assistant Superintendent
• Communicate and collaborate with counselors, administrative team, and district regarding programming, student placement, curriculum, instruction, assessment, student placement, etc.
• Ensure that strength in curriculum, instruction, and assessment in English classes
• Lead curriculum revision teams as necessary
• Describe and model the implementation of instructional strategies and literacy practices for MHS faculty
• Assist in the coordination and administration of MCAS testing
• Collaborate with K-8 Humanities Supervisors
• Communicate with families/guardians and MHS events
• In addition to monitoring academic progress, collect, analyze, and interpret student achievement data on MCAS, Reading Plus, and benchmark and interim assessments
• Perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities as assigned by the Supervising Principal and Assistant Superintendent

REPORTS TO:

Supervising Principal. The performance of this job will be evaluated as per the Methuen Adminstrator’s Association (Unit B) Contract.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Covered under Methuen Administrators Association (Unit B) Contract.
