Job description
Locates water lines; ductile iron, galvanized, plastic, PVC and copper etc., as required.
Locates sewer lines; ductile iron, PVC, clay, etc. as required.
Use a variety of techniques (electrical, magnetic, GPS, blueprint analysis, and/or radar) to measure utilities.
Informs appropriate departments and personnel of up-to-date utilities in services areas and changes in service area
that needs to be corrected on maps and/or plats.
Interacts with contractors, coworkers, and the public
to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Reports problems to department managers found while locating in service areas.
Detects and reports any equipment malfunctions, defective parts and materials to appropriate supervisor.
Works in emergencies or “On Call” duty when required.
Keeps supervisor informed of any problems. Requests help as need.
Always wears necessary protective equipment and exercises extreme safety in tool equipment and vehicle operations.
Understands and observes all safety rule, regulations, and requirements.
Completes all related paperwork in conjunction with job duties.
Answers questions concerning utility locates from contractor and/or homeowners.
Works well with the public.
Remains current with relevant technological and procedural advancements
Performs other related tasks, as assigned.

Ability to read plans and specifications.
Self-motivated and able to work alone.
Ability to follow instructions.
Ability to understand and work from oral and written instructions.
Ability to work on multiple tasks without question.
Knowledge of surveying is a plus.
Ability to communicate effectively with the public, staff, and other customers.
Ability to use computers and knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Office is preferred.
Ability to use and understand electronic locating equipment and electronic meters.
Ability to keep accurate legible records required.
Must be able to work in different temperatures and changing weather conditions.
Must be able to traverse and inspect all areas of jobsite in all types of weather; this may include walking, climbing, reaching, bending, crawling, or stretching.
Exposure to characteristic construction site dangers.
Must have flexibility in scheduling to meet the needs of the business.
Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma.
