The Industrial Power Systems Division has an exciting technical leadership opportunity for an Engineering Project Team Leader in the Structures & Applications Components design team. This team designs structural and application related components for Caterpillar inline-6 diesel engines from 7L to 18L in displacement. The Engineering Project Team Leader will be responsible for providing technical and organizational support to the team of 10-13 engineers. This position will provide technical coaching to the engineers to drive towards quality designs and will also be responsible for coordinating various processes that the team uses to serve engine platform and engine application customer organizations. Additionally, this position will run special technical and process related projects on an as-needed basis. It is imperative that the incumbent have a strong understanding of engineering principles as well as a passion for process and organizational excellence. This position reports to the Engineering Manager.

Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide technical oversight to design engineers. Ensure design and process standards are being followed

  • Coordinate with the virtual product development (VPD) team to ensure robust validation of component designs

  • Maintain close working relationships with technical leads on other engine component design teams as well as engine platform lead engineers

  • Drive and coordinate the details of the following processes within the design team:

    • Design Reviews

    • New Product Introduction (NPI)

    • Factory and product reliability issues resolution

    • Cost Management and Cost Reduction

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, materials science, or similar related technical field

  • Minimum of 6 years of progressively responsible job-related experience

  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings

  • Excellent organizational, communication, and presentation skills

  • Ability to multi-task and manage multiple projects or initiatives

  • Intermediate to high level of skill with Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint

Top candidates will also have:

  • Advanced engineering or technical degree

  • Knowledge of Caterpillar design standards

  • Experience with Teamcenter database and Creo solid-modeling software (or similar applications)

  • Structural analysis or testing experience in heavy equipment or automotive applications

  • Diesel engine design, analysis, or testing experience

  • Previous experience dealing with purchase-finished component suppliers

  • Experience with component design on heavy equipment or automotive applications

  • Willing to travel up to 10%
