POSITION SUMMARY:
This position owns the Manufacturing Excellence pillars of Asset Integrity & Reliability and Project Excellence. He/she is expected to drive and support a best in class safety culture. The engineering manager is responsible for the coordination of design, construction and maintenance of equipment, machinery, buildings and other assets at the Monroe site. The position provides leadership and direction for a maintenance engineering supervisor and the maintenance staff. The role manages engineering projects, new product/process development, repairs and upgrades to equipment and process, and capital project planning and management. This role is a member of the plant leadership team.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Promote a supportive environment focused on safety, quality of work and departmental efficiency
  • Oversight of the Permit to Work (PtW) process
  • Provide technical support to all engineering and maintenance activities within the plant
  • Implement programs that fully utilize the capability of the CMMS (SAP)
  • Provide technical support to the plant in the areas of new process development and improvements in productivity (equipment uptime), capacity, capability and reliability
  • Manage outside contractor programs related to safe operation, electrical, mechanical, structural, and technical areas
  • Manage the engineering and maintenance staff development consisting of 6 hourly personnel and one maintenance engineering supervisor
  • Manage all maintenance expenses, capital programs and utilities
  • Plan and execute all maintenance shutdown activities to maximize productivity and ensure work is completed correctly and on time
  • Enhance predictive and preventative maintenance programs
  • Develop, implement, and monitor key performance metrics related to costs, schedule, uptime, compliance, quality, etc.
  • Identify and implement activity, including projects to drive system and personnel performance improvements
  • Monitor equipment trends to ensure best possible operation and reduction of planned/unplanned downtime
  • Other duties as assigned

Must Have Knowledge, Skills, & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or equivalent
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in a leadership role within a manufacturing environment
  • Ability to confidently drive safety culture transformation and to sustain by engaging all levels of the organization
  • Ability to analyze large amounts of data into actionable plans and projects
  • Project management and design. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong technical problem solving skills- root cause analysis
  • Ability to identify trends and anticipate consequences to lead focused action and resolution
  • Strong communication skills to include verbal, written, presentation, and training
  • Ability to collaborate within a cross-functional organization and leverage resources
  • Knowledgeable in the following areas: construction codes, OSHA, environmental regulatory requirements
  • Microsoft office applications, technical/program writing, training and presentation skills, project management
  • Knowledge of SAP Maintenance and Purchasing procedures
  • Ability to create and drive Synthomer's core values and maintain positive employee relations
