JOBThis position is responsible for the management, execution, and supervision of roadway, drainage, right-of-way, and other maintenance construction projects including all accessory actives. Provides infrastructure and right-of-way maintenance services within the guidelines of County and departmental procedures and regulations, accepted engineering standards and surveying methods, state guidelines, and approved development & construction plans. Reports to the Assistant Director, AED Maintenance, or other designated person, and works with co-workers, employees, private engineers, contractors, developers, surveyors, other city departments, and the public.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Manages, directs, and supervises construction maintenance, infrastructure maintenance, and right-of-way maintenance projects completed by staff in the Engineering Maintenance Division; maintains right-of-way and other county owned infrastructure.Manages projects through engineering inspections, maintenance construction quality control and quality assurance, and Erosion, Sedimentation, & Pollution Control inspections & compliance.Serves as maintenance construction site liaison and provides maintenance construction problem resolution through field engineering.Oversees construction and other projects carried out by general contractors and on call services; assists in resolving construction and maintenance problems through field engineering changes, and dispute resolution through communication.Assists in review of maintenance construction plans, specifications, cost estimate and payment requests; assists in upkeep and maintenance of heavy equipment and machinery, evaluation of equipment and other resources needs.Supervises, trains, guides, and evaluates subordinate staff.POSITION SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES MIGHT INCLUDE: Works with Fleet Maintenance Shops for maintenance of equipment/vehicles assigned to Engineering Maintenance Division.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Engineering Science, or Civil Engineering Technology or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience, which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. {Please note: Upon job offer, you will be required to provide proof of education. Be sure to have the appropriate documents readily available.} Experience: Four (4) years of street/roadway, storm drainage, commercial, subdivision construction, and field surveying experience, to include two (2) years of supervisory experience; Or a High School Diploma or GED with eight (8) years of street/roadway, storm drainage, commercial, subdivision construction and field surveying, and construction management experience, to include four (4) years of supervisory experience. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Excellent knowledge of engineering, road construction, drainage system installation, vegetation management, construction materials and structural fill.Good knowledge of principal and practices of survey, design, and construction.Good communication skills, both oral and written.Demonstrated ability to work independently.Good knowledge of grading, paving, soil stabilization, construction material testing, soil mechanics, erosion control and vegetation.Ability to read and interpret engineering plans, blueprints and specifications, records of surveys, and tract descriptions.Good computer skills and familiar with word processing and spreadsheet software.Demonstrated ability to supervise and/or train designated subordinate personnel.Licensing: Must possess a valid state operator/driver’s license for the type vehicle operated with good driving history. ***This position requires driving a county vehicle.*** Certification: Must possess or have ability to obtain Georgia E&S Level 1B certification within 90 days of employment.
