ANNUAL SALARY RANGE $52,265 - $66,637 plus O/T

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The position is eligible for paid overtime and is under general supervision. The position is responsible for performing technical work associated with evaluating and monitoring projects during construction and keeping organized field/office records for project related items such as material quantities and invoicing. Project/work examples include but are not limited to: asphalt resurfacing, roadway widening, pavement preservation, full-depth subgrade reclamation, concrete flat work and curb, storm water drainage improvements, roadway intersection improvements, bridge replacements, and general grading activities.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Has knowledge of techniques, materials, practices, and terminology used in road and bridge construction projects. Has the ability to understand and work from oral and written instructions (plans and specifications) and enforce regulations/specifications with tact and diplomacy. Is able to establish and maintain communication and a positive attitude in order to create effective working relationships with contractors, the general public, and associates. A knowledge of construction materials testing requirements and equipment is a plus.

Must be able to operate an automobile. Work is mainly “field work” performed at the site/location of the construction project. A county vehicle, phone, computer, and tablet are provided for business usage.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR STANDARDS REQUIRED:

Must be able to operate an automobile and a variety of automated equipment including a computer. Must be physically able to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Physical demands are in excess of those for sedentary work. Work involves walking or standing for a long period of time, moving, climbing, bending, and stooping.

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

Any combination of education and/or field experience within the construction industry. Must possess an unrestricted driver's license valid in the State of South Carolina. Must possess or have the ability to obtain certifications in sediment and erosion control (Erosion Prevention and Sediment Control Inspector) and asphalt (Asphalt Roadway Technician) within the first year of employment.

ADDITIONAL BENEFITS:

Annual clothing allowance in the amount of $450 Longevity pay increase after 18 months of employment. Applicable certifications/professional licenses and/or renewals paid for by county.

Pay: $52,265.00 - $66,637.00 per year
