Job Description

  • Radiological and environmental characterization
  • Maintenance on MEL radioactive systems
  • Upgrades to MEL infrastructure where radiological controls may be required
  • Removal of MEL radioactive systems including packaging for disposal
  • Removal of paint from radioactive material surfaces
  • Refurbishment or remediation of structural components, machinery, piping, and ventilation systems
  • Equipment assembly and system upgrades in the MEL radiological areas including small-scale work.
  • Industrial remediation of various non-hazardous and hazardous materials, such as Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCBs), mercury, beryllium, solvents, and lead, which may or may not be radioactively contaminated.
  • Develop plans, reports, and perform environmental investigation and remediation activities pursuant to local and federal regulatory programs, as required.
  • Provide engineering support as work is executed to ensure compliance with engineered work products.
  • Including any updates or changes needed for work execution procedures.
  • Develop engineered drawings, sketches, lifting, and handling diagrams to support complex D&D projects.
  • Training and qualifying as an Engineer of Radiological Work.
  • Other engineering efforts related to reducing the radiological footprint of the MEL.

Qualifications

  • A B.S. degree in Engineering or Science is required.
  • Experience of two years or more is preferred.
  • The individual will qualify as an Engineer of Radiological Work (ERW).
  • Individual responsibilities include preparation of technical radiological procedures for D&D, equipment design and fabrication to support D&D work, disassembly of equipment and packaging equipment for shipment and preparation for burial, minimizing radioactive waste volume and appropriate safety controls, and preparation of radioactivity estimates for packaging of radioactive material.
  • Radiological background in D&D and environmental projects is preferred.
  • Approximately three months of site-specific training at the Bettis facility will be required to be fully qualified to perform work.
  • Must be able to obtain an ā€œLā€ Security Clearance. Holding an existing clearance is preferred.
  • Requires background investigation resulting in an "L" DOE clearance.
