EMS LOGISTIC TECH-PART TIME
General Definition of Work:
Performs non-emergency and emergency driving and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed and supervised under the limited supervision of the EMS Captain of that shift. This temporary position will be offered with flexible schedule depending on candidate availability and staffing needs. The position will be active for at least 4 months, with a potential for extension depending on candidate availability and staffing needs. Examples of potential schedules are listed below:
24 hour shift, 2-3 days per month
10 hour shift, twice per week
8 hour shift, 2-3 days per week
Other variation predetermined on hire date.
Essential Functions:
Responds to emergency calls as a mobile medical unit driver. Responds to non-emergency calls, such as requests to transport patients from hospitals to their homes or from a local medical facility to a specialized medical center. Assists with lifting and patient mobility. Assists with daily vehicle and equipment inspections, maintaining proper inventory of equipment and supplies. Cleans and sanitizes ambulance and equipment daily; ensuring that all equipment is in proper and good working order, reports other than minor defects for specialized attention. Maintains cleanliness and performs minor maintenance of Emergency Medical Service facilities including washing the trucks and adhering to base cleaning schedule.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
General knowledge of related industry, organization, and department policies, practices, and procedures; general knowledge of the principles and techniques of emergency and non-emergency driving, including transportation; general knowledge of the street system and geography of the County; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; ability to keep simple records; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public.
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or GED
Physical Requirements:
This work requires the regular exertion of up to 25 pounds of force and occasional exertion of over 100 pounds of force; work regularly requires using hands to finger, handle or feel and lifting, frequently requires standing, walking, speaking or hearing, climbing or balancing, reaching with hands and arms, pushing or pulling and repetitive motions and occasionally requires sitting, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling and tasting or smelling; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work occasionally requires wet, humid conditions (non-weather), exposure to outdoor weather conditions, wearing a self-contained breathing apparatus and exposure to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).
Special Requirements:
Successful completion of the MedPAT physical fitness test is required and will be part of the interview process.
Successful completion of CEVO (Coaching the Emergency Vehicle Operator) upon hire.
Successful completion of TIMS (Traffic Incident Management Course) within 60 days of hire.
Valid unrestricted drivers license.
Ability to complete and pass a criminal background check and drug screen.
