Your Opportunity

Scion is paving a path in student living and we're seeking an Employee Relations Manager to join us in executing our vision. This position will design, plan and implement employee relations policies and procedures and lead a support team of three. The Employee Relations Manager is a fair-minded leader who excels in a fast-paced, agile, corporate environment. This role demands exceptional written communication, absolute objectivity, and thoroughness throughout.

This is an in-office opportunity, based at our Chicago headquarters. For FLSA purposes, this position is exempt.

Your Responsibilities

Supervisory

  • Recruits, interviews, hires, and trains direct reports.
  • Oversees the daily workflow of direct reports.
  • Provides development opportunities and constructive and timely performance evaluations.
  • Handles discipline of employees in accordance with company policy.
  • Guides HR team members in the resolution of complex employee relations issues.

Operations

  • Manages and resolves complex employee relations issues.
  • Ensures employee relations issues are resolved by thorough and objective investigations.
  • Guides HR team members through escalation process, ensuring clarity of responsibilities and timeliness of execution.
  • Identifies, recommends, and oversees implementation of appropriate actions to accomplish a timely resolution of employee concerns. Ensure well-documented written summaries of findings and communications are completed.
  • Advises and trains managers and supervisors in best employee relations practices and strategies for managing supervisor problems and employee grievances. Develops further training as needed.
  • Maintains in-depth knowledge of legal requirements related to day-to-day management of employees, reducing legal risks, ensuring regulatory compliance and informing recommendations for changes. Partners with the legal department as needed/required.
  • Analyzes and identifies trends to inform development of solutions, programs, and policies.
  • Identifies training needs for business units and individual executive coaching needs. Partners with Talent Acquisition as it pertains to staffing changes and Learning & Development as it pertains to training development.
  • Partners with Learning & Development team for evaluation and monitoring of training effectiveness as it pertains to employee relations to ensure training objectives are met.

What We Require

  • Education in Human Resources, Psychology, Conflict Resolution or related field
  • Proficiency with maintaining an HRIS system - ADP Workforce Now
  • 5 years of professional work experience with employee relations and human resources
  • 1 year of supervisory experience
  • Presentation skills for conducting training
  • SHRM-CP or PHR certification preferred

Operational Details

  • Job location is based at Scion's Chicago corporate headquarters.
  • Working hours consist of standard daytime business hours, with flexibility during peak times.
