SUMMARY:

EHV Navigators shall be assigned to work on NYCHA EHVs or HPD EHVs as directed by HPD. EHV Navigators shall only work on referrals from the source to which they are assigned unless otherwise directed by HPD in its sole discretion. Monday through Friday with weekends as needed.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• EHV Navigators shall be assigned to work on NYCHA EHVs or HPD EHVs as directed by HPD.
• EHV Navigators shall only work on referrals from the source to which they are assigned unless otherwise directed by HPD in its sole discretion.
• The responsibilities of the EHV Navigators shall include, but not be limited to: receiving client referrals from HPD; coordinating with various City agencies and their contracted providers to track and manage an ongoing caseload of households in receipt of an EHV; and assisting households in receipt of an EHV through the processes of identifying, applying for, leasing, and moving into housing within 120 days of voucher issuance, but in no event more than 180 days total, if an extension of time has been approved by HPD.
• Responsible for advocacy and providing assistance to clients in obtaining permanent housing.
• Escort clients to view apartments and meet prospective landlords and real estate brokers.
• Maintain all documentation and submit all monthly reporting in a timely manner.

This position requires a High School Diploma, Bachelors Degree preferred and/or previous housing experience working with the homeless, mentally ill, and chemically addicted populations. Knowledge of housing resources and entitlements required. Must have exceptional communication skills both orally and in writing with individuals and groups regarding complex and sensitive issues. Valid driver license. Physical ability to perform the essential job functions are needed. In addition, the Housing Specialist shall perform any duties as required to meet the needs of the program and the clients we serve.
