Embedded Firmware/Software Engineer IV

Based in Southern California with locations in Malibu, Calabasas, and Camarillo; HRL has been on the leading edge of technology, conducting pioneering research and advancing the state of the art.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

The Infrared Test & Integration team located in Camarillo California is a highly talented team of scientists and engineers with diverse backgrounds in circuit design, advanced packaging and integration, novel signal processing and algorithm development, and integration & characterization of highly complex digital and mixed signal systems for Infrared Imagining applications. Patriciate as part of a project team in this environment performing in-depth development, simulation, verification, and debugging of FPGA code with Verilog or System Verilog. Implement algorithms, and signal chain processing functions for image processing applications. Develop firmware code for microcontrollers with C or C++, and simulation and verification with Matlab/Python. Develop software for imaging applications, and radiometric performance test applications. Work directly and hands-on with custom FPGA boards and electronics. Contribute to design of associated custom electrical hardware platforms. Technical duties require candidate to present details of work to colleagues during design reviews, create and manage work plans to meet or exceed schedule deadlines, and provide written and oral summaries of work performed as needed (e.g. for reports).

EXPERIENCE DESIRED:

At least 6 years of experience with Xilinx or Altera devices, FPGA architectures, and development tools such as Quartus, Vivado, SDK, and HDL simulators. Familiar with embedded microcontrollers such as Microblaze/Zynq, and embedded development using C or C++. Good understanding of SerDes operation/programming and high speed signal integrity in general for speeds up 10Gbps. Proficient with interfaces such as SPI, UART, I2C, USB, and GTX transceivers. Experienced with troubleshooting of PCBs and FPGA interfaces related to high speed interfaces using Oscilloscopes, Spectrum Analyzers, Logic Analyzers, and related lab equipment. Proficient in Matlab or Python.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

Proficiency in use of computers, engineering work stations, complex electronic equipment, oral and written communication, interaction with vendors/colleagues. Ability to work well in a team and independently.

EDUCATION DESIRED:

Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or related scientific discipline
