Summary of Work
Essential functions of this position (#36-03-5054) include interviewing and determining eligibility for applicants and recipients of SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program - formerly Food Stamps), Medical Assistance, Child Care Assistance, TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families), and LiHeap (Heating Assistance Program), by interpreting state and federal policies. Incumbent will process applications, establish electronic case files, perform necessary actions related to fraud and appeals, attend trainings and workshops, use and understand online policy manuals, and other duties as assigned by the agency. A high level of verbal and written comminication skills is also required. Computer literacy is required.
The successful applicant must pass a standard background, motor vehicle and criminal record check.
Minimum Qualifications
Eligibility Worker I requires the qualifications as listed for the Eligibility Worker Technican underfill below PLUS one year of work experience determining eligibility in a social service office in one of the following economic assistance programs: Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Foster Care, Medicaid or LIHEAP OR an Eligibility Worker Associate Degree offered at Bismarck State College.
If no candidates meet the above requirements the position may be filled with an Eligibility Worker Technician with a starting salary of $2,738 per month. Mimimum qualifications for an Eligibility Worker Technician requires a high school diploma or GED PLUS one of the following:
- Three years of experience in the clerical, accounting, financial, legal or teaching fields.
- Three years of a Bachelors Degree program (90 semester hours or 135 quarter hours)
- Three years combined education and experience as listed above or
- Completion of the Eligibility Worker Certiicate Program offered at Bismarck State College.
The preferred applicant will have coursework with an emphasis in the following areas: Business Administration, Public Administration, Communications, Education, Sociology, Psychology, Social Work, Human Resources, or Guidance/Counseling.
The preferred applicant will also have work experience which includes receiving and analyzing information, determining an appropriate solution from a number of alternatives, and assisting or directing customers in implementing and completing necesary steps to resolve issues or satisfy inquiries.
