Job Status: Non-exempt

Position Summary

The Electrician is responsible for installing and maintaining the electrical wiring, fixtures, and systems on campus.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Perform general electric maintenance, installation, and repair work.
  • Determine the electrical scope of work to include location, quantities, and sizes of materials required.
  • Install, repair wiring, conduit, electrical fixtures, apparatus, control equipment, locate and repair defective lines, operate scissor and boom lifts for high areas.
  • Identify all tools required for tasks and identify safety risks and the precautions required to eliminate those risks.
  • Estimate time, material, and labor costs for maintenance and repair projects.
  • Assist mechanics in assembly and work performance, demolition, cleaning, and removing debris.
  • Process work orders.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Adhere to university and industry safety standards.
  • Perform other duties as needed.

Qualifications:

  • High School or GED with course work in the skilled crafts or training.
  • Journeymen license preferred.
  • Four years of experience in electrical repairs and installations under Master Electrician.
  • Thorough knowledge of safety procedures and guidelines.
  • Strong communication skills both oral and written.
  • Strong collaborative skills.
  • Ability to perform general electric maintenance, installation, and repair work.
  • Ability to use and operate hand tools, mechanical equipment, and power tools and equipment required for the work in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Ability to work independently without supervision.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at a time.
  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time.
  • Ability to frequently walk, kneel, bend, crawl, stoop, and climb.
