The Role:
Guardian is seeking an Electrical Technician to assist in the development of unmanned and automated agricultural equipment and support systems. These systems will be deployed across the US in support of increasing crop productivity and yield through the efficient application of various agricultural chemicals on crops. As an Electrical Technician, the candidate will have a direct impact on the reliability and success of these systems in a fast paced, challenging, yet supportive environment. This role requires the candidate to be an experienced self-starter. The candidate will report directly to the Lead Technician.
The Team:
Guardian Agriculture is developing large multicopters for applying agricultural chemicals to high-value crops. Relative to existing plane- and helicopter-based crop spraying solutions, our systems radically improve precision and safety while reducing chemical use, reducing impact on pollinating insects, and minimizing opportunities for organisms to acquire chemical resistance.
Guardian is a small, multi-disciplinary team of talented engineers, technicians, and operators who prioritize high reliability product and service design over exploratory R&D. We are a hands-on team and split our time between development work, system testing, and field deployments. Responsibilities:
- Electrical Technical
- Read and interpret electrical drawings including pseudo schematics, schematics, wiring diagrams, and B.O.M.s.
- Build and populate PCBs from documentation. Following ESD and handling practices.
- Wiring, crimping and soldering of high reliability high current electrical enclosures per documentation, and document as- built drawings.
- Debug issues on board and on system as a team and under direction.
- Maintain high workmanship standards.
- Manufacturing:
- Interface with outside vendors for manufacturing of parts and components.
- Use of hand tools and 3D printers to prototype and produce parts and assemblies.
- Travel and Testing
- Occasional Travel to agricultural deployment sites across the US for program support and testing.
- Assist in testing at headquarters.
Requirements:
- 3-5 years of experience as a technician in an environment that created and shipped electrical and/or mechanical products to customers.
- Ability to occasionally lift 50lb, bend, kneel, crawl, and navigate shop spaces as well as ground conditions that are typically found on agricultural food crop fields, i.e. loose tilled highly variable terrain including plants.
- Ability to Travel to agricultural sites in various states across the country.
- Familiarity with:
- Working in a fast-paced team-oriented environment.
- Safe working practices around rotating machinery and electrical equipment.
- Use of metrology instruments, including calipers, multimeters, oscilloscopes, etc.
- Reading and understanding technical drawings.
- IPC standards for SMT and TH Soldering including wire splicing.
- Redlining drawings to create as-built documentation.
- ECAD such as Eagle or Altium a plus.
- Use of hand-tools and power tools such as band-saws, drills, grinders, etc. is a plus.
- Working with Lithium-Polymer Batteries and Electric Motor Drives is preferred but not required.
- Operating 3D printers or other CNC Machinery in a production environment is a plus.
- Solidworks or other MCAD programs are a plus.
