SA-TECH has supported all instrumentation efforts of the Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division Prototyping, Instrumentation, and Experimentation Group and the Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division Airborne Instrumentation Systems Division since 2015. Our support encompasses the full spectrum of instrumentation from design (engineering and drafting) to fabrication and installation, to the day-to-day support (calibration, pre-flight support for Test/Evaluation, post-flight support).

We are currently seeking to hire a talented PCB Design Engineer based out of our facilities at NAWS China Lake, CA to design and create electrical schematics, PCB layouts, sketches, drawings, and specifications. Our PCB Designer will apply engineering principles to investigate, analyze, plan, design, develop, implement, test, and evaluate hardware and software, including military weapon systems. You would also review and prepare engineering and technical analyses, reports, change proposals, and other technical documentation. The engineer applies engineering experience to perform functions such as system integration, configuration management, quality assurance testing, or acquisition and resource management. You may need to analyze, design, develop, implement, test, or evaluate automated data processing software related to engineering or functional requirements of military weapon systems, associated support systems, or management information systems.

At a minimum, the Design Engineer must be able to:

  • Follow AS9100 processes in designing / creating electrical schematics, PCB layout, sketches, drawings, and specifications.
  • Work closely with Division Chief Engineer, Electronic Technicians, & CDM to ensure technical work is accurate, sound, and documented.
  • Participate in Systems Engineering Reviews and other Technical Peer Reviews.
  • Troubleshoot, repair/re-work, and validate various instrumentation systems including installations, assemblies, and components.
  • Document failures in accordance with AS9100 process.
  • Work in an assigned lab when necessary while operating lab equipment to include: decommutators, programmable power supplies, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, RF power meters, decryptors, LPKF PCB prototype equipment, function and waveform generators, digital multimeters, infrared cameras, bit error rate testers, bit synchronizers, and RF receivers.
  • Coordinate with Project Managers in providing budgets for technical design work.
  • Mentor Junior Engineers and technicians providing troubleshooting techniques, technical guidance, resolving issues concerning electronics, and cultivating an effective, positive & professional image.

Work Conditions:

  • Conditions will vary, although most work will be performed in enclosed buildings.
  • Work will include sitting, standing, walking, lifting and reaching.
  • Must be capable of lifting 50 lbs. by yourself and 50-100 lbs. assisted by others.
  • Working hours are 0700-1630, M-F.
  • Sometimes need to work flex working hours, sometimes need to work overtime.
  • May require periodic travel
Requirements:

Education/Experience/Skills:

  • A Bachelor's Degree in an engineering discipline (aerospace, chemical, civil, computer, electrical, electronics, industrial, materials, mechanical, nuclear) from a school where the degree curriculum was accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).
  • Seven+ (7+) years of Electrical Design and programming experience preferred to include Analog and Digital Circuit Design, Printed Circuit Board (PCB) Layout and Assembly, Rigid and Flex PCBs, FPGA Firmware Development, Microcontroller Programming, and RF Systems Engineering. Skills in programming also include VHDL, Verilog, C/C++, Java, MATLAB, Simulink, LabView, and Android.
  • Experience with communication systems, varied wireless modulation schemes: AM, FM/PM, PCMFM, QAM, QPSK, SOQPSK, OFDM, and wired communication protocols such as UART, RS232, I2C, USB, and SPI.
  • Experience using equipment de-commutators, programmable power supplies, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, RF power meters, LPKF PCB prototype equipment, function and waveform generators, digital multi-meters, infrared cameras, bit error rate testers, bit synchronizers, and RF receivers.
  • Experienced using the programs Cadence Allegro, OrCAD Capture, PSPICE, Cadence PADS Editor, HyperLynx Signal Integrity Analysis for PCB Design, MATLAB, Simulink, MPLAB, Quartus II, Xilinx, JDeveloper, LabView, Qt, and Microsoft Visual Studios
  • Possess a valid driver’s license; must be able to be insured through Company’s vehicle insurance policy while driving work/government/rental vehicles during working hours, and for the duration of your work employment.
  • U S Citizenship required and the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Interim Security clearance prior to hire and maintain clearance throughout employment.
  • All candidates will be required to pass a consumer report and/or consumer investigation to include SSN, Driver Record and Criminal Background Investigation.
