Astrobotic Technology is seeking an Electrical Engineer II to serve as the design engineer on our Avionics subsystem team. Astrobotic Technology wants you to design, fabricate, and test hardware avionics and electronics components for the Griffin lunar lander, which was selected by NASA to return America to the Moon.
Job Responsibilities:
- Design PCBs to that serve as the spacecraft’s primary and secondary avionics systems
- Perform trade studies on electronic components and select the best options for engineering and flight avionics units
- Develop test procedures for component, board-level and system-level integrated testing
- Programming embedded systems, FPGAs, microcontrollers, computer processors, graphic processors, or similar
- Support hardware-in-the-loop testing with engineering and flight systems
- Write and present technical reports
- Implement the full systems engineering development cycle, and regularly report to the Avionics Systems Lead on progress
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- B.S. in Electrical or Computer Engineering
- Schematic and board design proficiency using software like Altium, Eagle, OrCAD, or similar
- Rapid prototype development skills
- Strong debugging skills
- Capable of programming embedded systems
- Ability to develop modeling tests for power or avionics systems
- Capable of programming FPGAs, microcontrollers, computer processors, graphic processors, or similar
- Digital, analog, and signal conditioning design skills
- Designing hardware avionics, including computing, signal conditioning, control electronics, filtering, data acquisition, and command & data handling (C&DH)
- Utilizing partners and suppliers to identify and implement cost-effective, technically optimal solutions
- Researching and selecting components from various external vendors by verifying that the components meet the mission needs
- Developing schematic and board designs using software like Altium, Eagle, OrCAD, or similar
- Testing assembled PCBs or integrated systems
- Delivering and presenting technical reports of tests and advancements in avionics and power systems
- Performing hardware-in-the-loop tests for selected components
- Minimum 5 years of experience in electronics hardware development
- Experience in military or aerospace environments
- B.S. in Electrical or Computer Engineering
Desired Skills & Qualifications:
- Performing trade studies for the electrical and avionics systems
- Systems engineering experience for controlling requirements, risks, and integration flow
- Strong debugging skills
- Capable of programming embedded systems, FPGAs, microcontrollers, computer processors, graphic processors, or similar
- Applying NASA-STD 8739.4, AIAA-S122-2007, MIL-HDBK-454B, or similar
- Applying NASA-STD 4001 and NASA-STD 4003 or similar
- Developing test scripts or simulations for testing integrated systems
- Experience digital, analog, and signal conditioning design skills
- Experience in developing spacecraft electronics systems for an unmanned spacecraft or similar
- Knowledgeable of Range Safety and Ground Safety electronics compliance
Salary Range: $85,000- $105,000
The base salary range represents the low and high end of the anticipated salary range for this position. The actual base salary offered for this position will depend on numerous factors including individual performance, business objectives, and the candidates professional experience. Base salary is just one component of Astrobotic’s competitive total rewards strategy.
To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) you must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
