What you will do

PHI is seeking an entry-level electrical engineer to join our team in the development of instrument control and data acquisition hardware for all of PHI’s surface analysis products. The role requires a highly motivated individual who is passionate to work in a cross-functional team to solve tough challenges and deliver high-quality electronics for PHI’s instruments. Our small company culture will allow you to have hands-on experience and contribute your talents to the entire product life cycle, plus gain knowledge and skills in designing high-end analog and digital electronics.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assemble and test experimental power supplies, motor-control devices, and other electrical equipment and components according to engineering data and electrical principles
  • Modify electrical prototypes to correct functional deviations under direction of Senior Electrical Engineer
  • Diagnose cause of electrical or mechanical malfunction or failure of operational equipment and performs preventative and corrective maintenance
  • Plan, direct, and record periodic electrical testing, to recommend and / or initiate modification or replacement of equipment which fails to meet acceptable operating standards.

Qualifications

Critical Skills & Knowledge:

  • Proficient in electronics design principles.
  • Familiar with at least one programming language (e.g., C, Python).
  • Excellent problem solving, troubleshooting, and analytical thinking skills.
  • Self-motivated with outstanding drive for results.
  • High attention to detail and dedicated to quality and excellence.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and an ability to work well in a highly collaborative project team environment.
  • A willingness to work in an international context, partnering with engineering groups at PHI’s Japanese partner company.

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field (or 10 years’ experience as an electronics technician).
  • Occasional travel to business partner and customer locations, including internationally (<10 days/year).
  • Experience with OrCAD Capture / Altium and/or PCB Editor SW preferred.
