HDR is seeking a highly motivated Electrical Designer/EIT with the technical skills and desire to help support our multi-discipline Renewables, Battery Storage, Fossil Power, Hydropower, and Distributed Energy team in Charlotte, NC. This individual will be a key member of HDR's rapidly growing engineering team and will work under senior engineers to support the following:

Primary Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed design packages for new and modifications to existing power generation facilities (Hydro, Solar, Storage, Coal, Natural Gas)
  • Detailed design packages can include relay protection upgrades, plant control system upgrades, excitation, governor, and power system upgrades
  • Work on projects with clear, specified objectives and limited variables
  • Major plant equipment specification such as generators, oil-filled and dry-type transformers, medium and low voltage motors, switchgear and motor control centers, PLC and Distributed Control Systems.
  • Perform cable, raceway and equipment sizing calculations
  • Cable and conduit schedules and routing drawings
  • Develop Input and Output (I/O) List and interface with the plant control system
  • Be involved in design engineering projects from kickoff to project close-out and as-built drawing preparation.
  • Become proficient in CAD software such as AutoCAD and Microstation
Qualifications


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
  • EIT or ability to gain EIT certification; candidates hired without EIT will have a 'Designer' title until certification is obtained.
  • The successful candidate will be expected to establish and maintain good relationships with peers, client organizations, vendor representatives, and sub-consultants and be highly motivated
  • Detail oriented individual
  • Strong computer skills using AutoCAD and Microsoft Office
  • Travel 20-30% of the time
  • A strong work ethic and a commitment to being an active participant in an employee-owned culture

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a design organization; supporting the power or heavy industrial industry a plus
  • Previous CAD experience in the design of electrical systems
  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
  • Previous internship experience beneficial
  • Previous experience with an architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firm
