POSITION: Elderly Driver-Part time

LOCATION: Red Cliff Elderly Nutrition Center

SALARY: $13.00 per hour, 20 hours per week

SUPERVISOR(S): Elderly Director, Family/Human Services Division Administrator

THIS IS A REGULAR PART-TIME NON –EXEMPT POSITION.

JOB SUMMARY: Transport Elderly Community Residents for shopping, activities, events, and to congregate site for meals. Plan group activities for elders.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Maintain reporting logs for shopping, activities and events and/or daily meal etc.
• Confirm Appointments when needed.
• Distribute informational materials to recipients as assigned.
• Maintain confidentiality; Analyze and solve problems within available/appropriate means.
• Clean vehicle completely after each delivery/transport.
• Wheelchair accessibility knowledge.
• Lifting of clients, proper lifting techniques.

KNOWLEDGE: Knowledge of and sensitivity for Ojibwe culture and traditions.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Previous experience working with elders; preferred
• Must possess the ability to communicate effectively with elders and disabled community along with program staff in a positive manner.
• Must have ability to get in and out of vehicles frequently and with ease.
• Must be able to safely lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
• Must be able to pass a routine and caregiver background check.
• Must be dependable, flexible, and have a genuine interest in helping elderly.
• Must have a valid driver’s license, vehicle and appropriate vehicle coverage and maintain driver’s eligibility as a condition of employment. Be eligible to be put on the Tribe’s vehicle insurance policy.

PERSONAL CONTACTS: Daily contact with Nutrition Program staff, clients, and volunteers.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Individual will require driving and sitting for long periods of time, bending, lifting boxes of a minimum of 50 pounds, and reaching. The driver must be able to do all movements associated with transporting clients and/or food delivery.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Elderly Nutrition Site located in the Housing Authority Building, which is smoke free.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: Service delivery area is within Red Cliff Reservation, Town of Russel, Town of Bayfield, City of Bayfield, Ashland, Ironwood, MI and Duluth, MN.
