This temporary position is located in Morganton, NC- Burke County.

Job Order Hourly Rate of Pay: $15.00 (Based on education and/or years of relevant work experience reflected on the application).
This temporary position will be assigned to the Department of Public Instruction. This position is located at 517 West Fleming Dr., Morganton, NC 28655.

The Teacher Assistant is primarily responsible for providing educational assistance, both formal and informal, in the classroom setting to students at the direction of the classroom teacher. Examples include but are not limited to, one-on-one tutoring; remedial instruction of teacher specified skills; small group instruction; language acquisition skills; supervision of student activities in the classroom or in natural settings located in the community; social/behavior skills monitoring; or other educational goals written in the IEP for each student. The aide is also responsible for performing other specified duties assigned by the classroom teacher and/or principal as needed. This requires the aide to work closely with professionals and paraprofessionals from outside the regular classroom to ensure proper programming.

  • Basic knowledge of child development.
  • Working knowledge of the instructional programming being taught.
  • Ability to manage small group activities.
  • Ability to work with disabled youth.
  • Ability to work with incarcerated youth.
  • Ability to implement and/or develop lesson plans.
  • Ability to establish rapport with students in the program and their families.
  • Ability to assist the teacher in maintaining an environment favorable to learning.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and one year of experience working with students in an educational environment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
