UNIT: Tacoma Citadel Corps

POSITION TITLE: Driver – Full-Time (40 hours/week)

REPORTS TO: Warehouse Operations Manager


GENERAL STATEMENT:

SCOPE OF POSITION:

The part time driver for the Warehouse/Social Services program is an essential team member for The Salvation Army of Tacoma’s warehouse, food bank, food pantry and social services. Primarily, this includes driving a truck to pick up donations, processing (weighing, sorting, logging in, and storing) donations in the warehouse, and cleaning/maintaining the warehouse. The part time driver also serves as a backup for the full time driver and the Warehouse Operations Manager. All employees are expected to participate in training and development.

ESSENTIAL PROGRAM AIDE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Pick up food donations and other in-kind donations and deliver them to the warehouse.
  • Properly document donations by weighing, sorting, logging and storing donations.
  • Assist in the maintenance of the warehouse, and operations-related equipment.
  • Assist in the vehicle maintenance and any record keeping relating to the vehicles.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Warehouse Operations Manager
  • Treat all staff members, volunteers, and residents with respect and dignity. Maintain a positive attitude and communicate professionally and respectfully to volunteers and employees. This includes verbal (in person conversations, over the phone, recorded messages) as well as written (text, emails, social media, and changeovers).
  • May be asked to maintain statistical records, reports, logs, files and other required documentation.
  • May be asked to provide orientation, support and supervision of volunteers.
  • Participation in staff meetings.
  • Checking work email during every shift.
  • During some shifts, it is possible that employee will be the only person on duty.

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent
  • Valid Washington State driver’s license with a clean driving record (background check required)
  • Valid forklift operator certification (or ability to get one)
  • Good public relations/communication skills
  • Ability to work with a variety of people in diverse situations
  • Knowledge of the Tacoma/Seattle area
  • Ability to work holidays and weekends if needed
  • Experience driving box trucks
  • Detail oriented and ability to multi-task
  • Ability to quickly learn and apply new information/skills
  • Sensitivity to and understanding of the comprehensive mission of The Salvation Army
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work in a challenging environment and maintain poise under pressure
  • Ability and willingness to keep information confidential
  • Must complete and adhere to Protecting the Mission requirements and guidelines, including the ability to pass a TSA background check at the time of hiring, and then annually.

SOFTWARE-REALTED SKILLS:

  • Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook (email)

PHYSICAL REQUIREMNTS:

  • Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or continuous basis
  • Ability to operate telephone
  • Ability to operate desktop or laptop computer
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. (emptying trash, moving boxes, etc.)
  • Ability to sweep, mop, and vacuum floors on a regular basis
