Position Summary: Port Houston’s Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (“DEI”) Department is looking for a full-time DEI Specialist to further establish DEI Action Plan initiatives that align with both strategic objectives and a culture of belonging. We're looking for someone with extensive knowledge of diversity and inclusion analytics, a passion for seeing the change in our communities, and an interest in employee training and development. The Specialist is responsible for compiling statistics, metrics, and reports to assess the progress and effectiveness of DEI initiatives.
Key Responsibilities/Duties:
- Use analytical skills and ability to translate metrics, research, and trends into action; identify areas for correction and improvement; develop action steps and program solution recommendations.
- Develop reports and associated materials to share research and analysis insights.
- Develop and execute an effective method for Port wide distribution of DEI-related content including cultural resources and celebrations.
- Manage the data collection and analysis of diversity programs.
- Plans and drives diversity goal setting & action planning process, based on direction from Director – Diversity & Inclusion and in partnership with HR Business Partners. Also provides recommendations for and implements ongoing process improvements.
- Collaborate with Internal Communications to prepare and create DEI material increasing knowledge, dialogue and conversations.
- Act as an integral member of the IDEA Action team.
- Organize program data with DEI and stakeholders.
- Measure program performance with qualitative and quantitative tools.
- Establish data analysis process to ensure consistency in approach and measurement.
- Act in accordance with Port Houston core values (respect, excellence, accountability, diligence, and you).
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Employee Relations, Human Resources Management, Organizational Development, Education, or closely related field. DEI certification preferred.
- 3 or more years of progressive experience supporting diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts. Experience may include combination of staff and leadership roles that involved project planning/implementation across business segments
- Passion, commitment, and knowledge of diversity & inclusion topics
- Track record managing multiple projects effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
- Demonstrated knowledge of workplace inclusion concepts and methodologies.
- Strong communication skills (research, interview, write, edit, and present)
- Ability to work both independently and as a strong collaborative team member
- Exceptional organizational skills with high degree of attention to detail
- Ability to synthesize and analyze data and trends
- High proficiency in MS Office programs and ability to adapt to and learn new software programs/systems
- Demonstrated ability to manage projects across an organization.
- Established ability to develop and utilize metrics/reporting/analytics preferably to support diversity initiatives
- Demonstrated interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to troubleshoot problems and implement solutions in a fast-paced environment
- Experience with Microsoft Project preferred
