The R&D DIRECTOR is leading two R&D product development teams in charge of executing formula developments and managing communication around new product development related to the brands he/she is assigned to.

The role has a significant impact throughout the product launch with responsibility for delivering on time in full, at the right cost and quality levels.

This position works closely with Third Party Manufacturers and internal stakeholders such as Packaging Development, Initiative leaders, Procurement and Quality whilst also partnering with Marketing Product Managers and Brand Developers.

The position requires skincare and color formula development and industrialization expertise, project management, team management and strong leadership skills, as well as a very business-oriented mindset.

Job Responsibilities
Lead and manage two teams of 3 to 4 managers (daily people management and development, technical support, trainings, coaching, year-end performance) Ensure the delivery of the Innovation Master Plan “on time” in full Enable his/her teams co-design formulas with TPMs by providing the right level of information (texture brief, blacklists, formulation guidelines) and drive formula development progresses
Play the role of technical consultant in multiple categories (skin care, color cosmetics, baby care, bath care, body care, OTC/sun & acne) for his/her teams, but also for external partners Ensure tech scouting activities (new TPMs and innovative formulas) with Procurement & Marketing Lead project discussions with key stakeholders (brands, R&D corporate, quality, procurement etc.) and be an R&D liaison between brands, operations, and global R&D functions Prepare reporting to Brands and Operations Meetings Represent R&D at Senior Management level When facing a challenge, alert and build an action plan, accordingly, define CAPA Define and follow-up on KPIs Build and propose brand innovation strategy and contribute to portfolio management Ensure and manage closely and strategically Skin and Color TPMs Keep building and maintaining TPM capability mapping Build a strong understanding of key beauty care markets (US, EU, Asia), key competitors and key beauty categories Ensure Regulatory and Safety Compliancy of formulas by collaborating with an external agency as well as R&D corporate functions Build and manage test design (microbiology, safety, clinical, consumer) with his/her teams Manage claim approval process with R&D functions and Legal teams Build, design and review claims with marketing, R&D functions, and Legal teams Keep improving current ways of working, new processes, and systems Keep maintaining and improving existing databases (formula ID cards, TPM ID Cards, raw materials, competitors, retailer clean lists, SAPRD) Manage budget for two brands and two categories (build, forecast, follow-up, report)

Manage 2 teams of 3/4 Managers each

Required education and experience
Minimum Education and Years of Relevant Experience. Postgraduate degree in Chemistry, Physics, Biophysics, Chemical Engineering – Masters
Technical knowledge in makeup and skincare, technical knowledge in packaging is a plus
Min. 10 years relevant experience working in close partnership with multi-functional team (Packaging, Procurement, Marketing, Quality, and Initiative leaders) = Project Management skills Strong ownership, accountability and demonstrated leadership ability

Ability to work under high pressure, Resistant, Perseverant
