Job Summary: The Director, Patient Safety and Accreditation coordinates and oversees the strategy, development and implementation of the patient safety and accreditation readiness programs of the health system. This role collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to direct organizational efforts to ensure patient safety and compliance with regulatory standards and ensures outcomes align with the health system’s mission, vision and values.
Education: Master's degree in Business Administration, Public Health, Health Care Administration, Nursing or other related field.
Licensure, Registration and/or Certification: None.
Work Experience: Minimum of 5 years of process improvement and project management experience including progressive responsibility in a leadership capacity.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Advanced knowledge of process improvement initiatives and the utilization of project management tools. Effective interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills and a collaborative approach to problem solving. Strong leadership skills relative to motivating and developing multi-disciplinary teams to be successful. Ability to apply safety and quality improvement methods and tools and the use of data to drive change. Proven ability to achieve results. Ability to organize and prioritize work in an effective and efficient manner.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Develops strategic and operational plans to build a prospective, proactive, loss prevention and harm reduction patient safety program. Provides leadership and direction in developing a culture of safety and identify opportunities and initiatives to enhance patient safety. Coordinates and oversees the development of comprehensive patient safety improvement initiatives to reduce medical errors and healthcare incidents. Works collaboratively with executive leadership and administrators, medical and nursing team members to develop strategies for improvement. Leads the System Patient Safety and Patient Safety Organization Steering Committees; directs the accreditation survey readiness program and its steering committee. Serves as the system administrator for the health system’s electronic reporting system. Stays well-informed of changes in accreditation standards and makes certain plans are developed and implemented to align with new standards.
Decision Making: Independent judgement in making decisions from many diversified alternatives that are subject to general review in final stages only.
Working Relationships: Direct supervision of others. Prepares and gives performance evaluations. Works with internal/external customers via telephone or face to face interaction. Works with other healthcare professionals and staff. Works frequently with individuals at Director level or above.
