Position Summary

The Director of Residence Life is a full-time, exempt, twelve-month live-in optional Student Affairs staff professional who provides overall leadership for a system of multiple residence halls housing over one thousand students.

Job Responsibilities:

  • In accordance with University policy, the Director plans, organizes, and controls the operations of the Department of Residence Life to ensure maximum utilization and efficient operations to meet University and community needs.
  • Within the area of Residence Life, the Director is responsible for strategic planning, business and financial management, staff and student development, judicial policies and processes, and facilities management.
  • Promotes and facilitates the development of housing services, staff, and students.
  • Hires and trains managerial and professional staff, establishes their work assignments, and provides guidance and technical work direction as required.
  • Provides supervision and support to Resident Assistant training and selection programs.
  • Personally, engages in discipling staff and students through efforts towards spiritual formation in partnership with the Department of Spiritual Life.
  • Promotes co-curricular and socially supportive Residence Life programming.
  • Develops and administers budgets for the department and monitors expenditures.
  • Directs overall fiscal operations to ensure efficient use and conservation of space and resources to meet University and department objectives.
  • Oversee staff on-call process and ensure adequate coverage.
  • Be available for consultation with staff during regular office hours and by phone in the event of an emergency.
  • Coordinates and participates in short- and long-term planning with various University and community interests in housing-related matters; prepares plans and recommendations for timely implementation.
  • Works creatively and collaboratively with colleagues from throughout the campus to meet housing needs.
  • Oversees all Residence Life professional staff.
  • Implements staff evaluation processes.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • A Master’s degree in College Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration, Psychology, Christian Education, Counseling, or another related field is required.
  • Three years of progressively responsible experience in higher education, including experience in the central office of a university housing program.
  • A comprehensive understanding of student housing and the role of residence halls in promoting student success.
  • An understanding of how to manage auxiliary budgets to achieve desired results is required.
  • The ability to manage change.
  • Availability for some night and weekend programming.
  • Eagerness to work to further the University’s vision as stated in the Ten Pillars 2030.
