Position Purpose:

The Director of Professional Development is a key member of the leadership team at KHI, reporting directly to the Chief Human Resources Officer, and is responsible for organizing, planning and directing the orientation and professional development programs for all levels of personnel in the organization.

Key Responsibilities
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Collaborates with senior leadership to identify and develop departmental organizational objectives, strategic plan, annual goals, and performance metrics. Provides leadership in communicating information to team leaders and team members to secure buy-in.

Development and oversight of leadership and professional development programs.

Organizes and facilitates clinical and non-clinical orientation and training to new and current technology and, if applicable, documentation for all levels of staff.

Evaluates current skill sets and develops plans to ensure high quality outcomes throughout the organization.

Plans and executes education and implementation projects as assigned, within a specific timeframe.

Serves as liaison for new technologies and assists with the implementation of all projects as designated by the Chief Human Resources Officer.

Leads and collaborates on educational and professional development initiatives. Collaborates with professional colleagues and disciplines to advance inter-professional education and professional development opportunities.

Uses innovative approaches and technology to support educational and professional development programs for adult learners.

Oversees Learning Management System to maintain employee competencies in areas of documentation and new technologies, providing recommendations when needed. Utilizes Learning Management System to ensure regulatory compliance and to assess and accommodate educational needs of new and experienced staff including role-based competencies and ongoing education related to quality initiatives and new technologies.

Provides documentation of competencies to department directors and Human Resources.

Coordinates documentation and follow up of Nurse Residency Program toward certification.

Works with the education department to create educational programs to meet broad employee needs and institutional patient care objectives.

Facilitates the implementation of learning programs.

Evaluates programs in terms of both individual and organizational performance.

Develops and maintain professional development programs for leadership succession planning as well as current leadership development.

Leadership and Management Skills:
Through persuasion or example, motivates and influences members of the Professional Development team toward the achievement of desired objectives.

Communicates effectively, professionally, and courteously with medical staff, employees, patients, and visitors. Communicates in a manner that generates trust and respect through honest and candid interaction. Solicits feedback and listens to alternative points of view.

Conveys the mission, vision, values, and goals of KHI as well as other necessary information to the appropriate individuals. Keeps the CHRO and others informed with appropriate level of information.

Presents verbal and written ideas and information concisely, logically, and effectively. Keeps in mind the intended audience.

Establishes high but attainable expectations. Creates an atmosphere in which goals and objectives are met through teamwork and cooperation. Holds reporting managers and employees accountable for achieving desired goals and objectives.

Makes good decisions by recognizing key issues, soliciting input when appropriate, identifying alternatives with associated possible risks and gains, and chooses the alternative which best contributes to the Hospital's goals and objectives. Effectively handles stressful situations.

Effectively prioritizes tasks and uses time wisely in the performance of responsibilities. Completes assigned tasks effectively and in a timely manner. Delegates duties appropriately to ensure maximum efficiency in the attainment of goals and objectives.

Participates in professional growth and encourages professional growth in others. Participates in appropriate professional associations and local civic activities.

Fully supports the institution’s efforts to promote both work and patient safety by encouraging employee feedback (surveys, suggestion boxes, individual or group interactions, etc.) and then acting on that feedback.

Required Qualifications
Experience:
Minimum of 7 years of experience as a Registered Nurse. Minimum of 5 years of experience in leadership, preferably in a healthcare setting. Experience managing or directing clinical staff. Experience with instructional design and training delivery. Experience utilizing Microsoft Office Suite in a workplace setting. Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Education:
Bachelors’ degree in Nursing or related field

Certification/Licensure:
Current Arizona RN License

Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience working with and managing an electronic Learning Management System.
Master's degree in Nursing, Healthcare or related field.

Special Position Requirements
Blood borne disease exposure category: II. Other potential hazard(s): possible exposure to chemical substances.

Work Requirements
Ability to sit, stand or walk for extensive periods of time, either at a desk or at and use a computer terminal; ability to speak clearly in front of a group of people; ability to reason at a high level, balance competing stakeholder interests, and find acceptable solutions through consensus building.
