Position Overview:
We are seeking a Director of Product Development - Sourcing and Technical Design, a key position at our corporate office in North Billerica, Massachusetts. The Director is responsible for leading and executing the strategic Sourcing and Fit activities for all imports for multiple apparel brands. Works in collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure financial goals are met, and that purchase orders are placed in a timely manner to arrive in the warehouse as needed for each catalog. You will be partnering with global sourcing and vendors to deliver high-quality, trend right merchandise at a great value to our customers across several brands. Must be open to travel.
Essential Responsibilities:
- This position will work closely with cross functional teams to develop efficient costing strategies to achieve financial targets on imports including all order placement, tech packages, testing, labels, and sample approvals.
- This position will manage the Technical Design team to ensure a proper and consistent fit on all garments, and that Return Rate goals are achieved.
- The Director will be responsible for managing and communicating with all oversees vendors regarding order placement, costing, and testing.
- The director will collaborate with Design Director to manage the PD process and calendar.
- Directs the preparation and delivery of Technical Packages for each item for appropriate team members to send out to multiple vendors to determine the most advantageous sourcing both domestically and overseas.
- Communicates with vendors to address any issues.
- Manage and offer feedback on sample approvals and TOP’s
- Manages development and maintenance of fit and quality standards. Works with PD and Buying staff to evaluate return information to improve fit and quality of garments.
- Work to insure that there is excellent communication between all cross functional team including Buying, PD, and IC to achieve timely deliveries of product which is produced with the correct styling, color, and fit.
- Have a collaborative management style with the ability to build partnerships both internally and externally.
- Supervises the Technical Designer and the Buying/QC liaison and other staff members as appropriate.
Qualification Requirements:
- Market knowledge of vendor capabilities.
- Familiarity of fabric content and construction.
- Must have experience with Excel, Word, Adobe Designer, and Illustrator.
- Experience with PDM or PLM software is a plus.
- Must have had experiencing managing and directing as well as hands-on experience in Product Development.
- Must be able to travel domestically and overseas.
- Visual acuity (close and distant.)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work in a deadline driven environment.
- Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university; or two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
