JOB SUMMARY*

As the Director of Pricing & Revenue Management, you will play a key role in delivering our ambitious revenue goals and act as a thought leader regarding pricing strategies that ensure our competitiveness. Your actions will maximize the revenue potential on a portfolio of 500 voyages operated annually by our fleet of 10 expedition ships.

You will be our pioneer and authority in the field of dynamic pricing as we transition to technology that enables it, and unlock the revenue opportunity that dynamic pricing brings.

You will be our pioneer at developing a formal approach to pricing experimentation. You will identify meaningful KPI and monitor the impact of decisions based on guest booking velocity, competition pricing and availability, historical trends, special events, demand seasonality, cost trends, and the potential for groups and charters.

You will develop strategies to offer the right price at the right time to customer segments ranging from first-timers to extremely loyal repeat guests, and from solo travelers to multi-generational families to large alumni groups.

You will identify cross-sell/up-sell/over-sell opportunities as well as the need for course-correction tactics.

You will develop processes to monitor the competitive landscape, and inter-departmental processes to implement your recommendations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
To perform this job successfully, the incumbent must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Additional duties may be added or assigned at any time.

  • Lead the unlocking of dynamic pricing potential when we transition to SeaWare.
  • Develop a formal approach to pricing experimentation.
  • Develop strategies to respond to revenue velocity, targeting fast-moving inventory to maximize opportunity, and slow-moving inventory for course-correction.
  • Develop a knowledge database of course-changing tactics.
  • Develop tools to measure the impact of pricing decisions.
  • Design a process to monitor the competitive landscape and cost trends.
  • Develop a strategy to respond to competitor activity and factor in cost trends.
  • Review affinity group and charter proposals.
  • Design a collaborative, inter-departmental process to implement pricing decisions.
  • Learn internal systems that are crucial to your role.
  • Develop in-depth knowledge of the adventure travel market.
  • Develop in-depth understanding of the core economics of ship-based travel.

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Experience

  • BS in Mathematics, Finance, Economics, Industrial Engineering, or Operational Research.
  • 6+ years of relevant experience in Revenue Management for travel or hospitality.
  • Superlative analytical skills and demonstrable ability to draw logical conclusions.
  • Strong understanding of mathematical and economic concepts as related to revenue management & pricing.
  • Expertise with quantitative analysis software.
  • Willingness to take calculated risks.
  • Demonstrable experience at Test & Learn experimentation.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit during a period of technological transition and readiness to exploit the capabilities of our next-generation platform.
  • Excellent collaborative skills.

Communication Skills
Using the English language, this person must have the ability to read, write, and comprehend policies, legal guidelines, correspondence, and memos. Must also possess the ability to effectively communicate-both in writing and orally-with a professional demeanor.

Other Skills/Abilities

  • Strong skills in organization, time management, handling multiple tasks, setting priorities, and meeting deadlines.
  • Proficient computer skills in the Windows operating system, including both word-processing and spreadsheet applications.
  • The ability to be proactive and work independently as well as with others in a team environment.
  • Occasional travel may be required.
