Position Summary
The Director of Marketing & Communications (DMC) will be responsible for providing marketing leadership to OMIC R&D. This position will advise and direct OMIC leadership in establishing goals, developing suitable strategies and tactics, implementing programs, and evaluating results to reach OMIC’s goals. The DMC will evaluate the effectiveness of OMIC’s brand and develop and oversee communications with external stakeholders while working collaboratively with the leadership team. This new position will rely on the skills of a self-starter within a small organizational team.

This position will assist with the structure and implementation of all marketing and communication efforts to enhance the future of OMIC R&D. Position requires high attention to accuracy, excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as the ability to make thoughtful, independent decisions and facilitate effort to maintain positive community relationships.

Department Summary
Oregon Manufacturing Innovation Center Research & Development (OMIC R&D) is a world-class collaborative environment that provides economic, strategic, and technological solutions for its industry partners, bringing together the best talents and capabilities of leading manufacturing companies and three universities: Oregon Institute of Technology (Oregon Tech), Oregon State University (OSU), and Portland State University (PSU). OMIC R&D is instrumental in bolstering economic growth, deepening relationships with metals-related industry, and providing a path for manufacturers to be more competitive in the global market.

The partnerships established through OMIC R&D provides applied research, technical advice, and support driven by manufacturing enterprises of all sizes to define the R&D focus. OMIC R&D is a developing and dynamic workspace where change is the norm. Operating procedures are being developed and are often flexible due to the constantly changing environment. It is not a manufacturing or fabrication facility where work tasks are predictable from one day to the next. The position is at the OMIC campus in Scappoose, OR.

Additional Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, marketing or other relevant field AND 5+ years of experience demonstrating comprehensive knowledge and understanding of public relations, promotions, marketing, writing, editing, communications and project management.
  • Experience in developing and implementing strategic marketing and communication plans
  • A solid understanding of social media, blogging, and advocacy campaigns and their application to OMIC’s stakeholders.
  • Excellent interpersonal and oral and written communication skills, including public speaking and articulating ideas clearly and succinctly
  • Strong media relations, executive and internal communications, management, and crisis communications skills
  • Demonstrated success in preparing presentations, speeches, developing talking points for Executive Team members

Preferred Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in public relations, promotions, marketing, writing, editing, communications, and project management
  • Work experience in education, public/private partnerships, and/or research and development.
  • Graduate degree in journalism, communications, or related field
  • Expertise in content marketing
  • Strong skills in analyzing information, situations, practices and procedures to define problems, identify relevant concerns and formulate logical and objective conclusions and recognize alternatives
  • Excellent strategic planning and resource management skills with demonstrated experience administering a complex operation with multiple objectives and points of view with limited resources

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $75,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
