SUNY Polytechnic Institute is seeking a Directory of Library and Information Services. The Director of the Library and Information Services is a 12-month position reporting to the Provost.

The Director of Library and Information Services provides leadership for all functions of the Cayan Library, builds a collaborative relationship with academic colleges and other campus and non-campus constituents, and provides direction for sustained excellence in supporting scholarship, teaching and learning. The Director will advance the success of the academic community by providing access to evolving collections, developing information literacy programs, creating innovative spaces, encouraging intellectual curiosity, and welcoming diverse perspectives. The Cayan Library houses other departments such as the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP), Accessibility Services, and the Learning Center. Collaboration among the departments results in joint events serving students, faculty, and staff, and highlights the multicultural composition of our campus and region.

Duties:

  • Represent the Library and its faculty and staff to the campus and wider community
  • Assess the delivery of library services within the context of the SUNY Poly's mission, vision and goals and engage in strategic planning
  • Manage the financial resources of the Library including the development and oversight of the budget and long-term planning
  • Lead initiatives that integrate library services as a critical component of academic excellence
  • Foster information literacy through innovative delivery of library and information services to diverse constituents, including in person and virtual learners, undergraduate and graduate level students
  • Create and promote the capacities of the Library to supplement and improve student learning and to support student and faculty collaborative research and scholarship
  • Engage in librarianship including instruction, outreach, access, reference, and technical services
  • Oversee the library electronic resources, information discovery platforms, data management systems, and digital commons spaces
  • Oversee the library website and outreach technologies such as LibGuides.
  • Explore potential use and implementation of new technologies such as chatbots.
  • Collaborate with other departments (i.e., EOP, Accessibility Services, and the Learning Center) housed in the library to serve students, faculty, and staff; host events; highlight the multicultural composition of our campus and region
  • Participate in committees at SUNY Poly as well as in SUNY-wide groups that involve library services

Job Requirements:


Qualifications:

  • A master's or higher degree in librarianship/information sciences from an ALA Accredited institution or an international equivalent
  • Demonstrated deep understanding of the role of the library and scholarly information resources, data, and institutional assets in supporting student success, teaching, and research
  • Broad and critical understanding of the major issues and emerging trends in libraries and librarianship, and in particular, academic libraries
  • Adept at and interested in providing a variety of library and information services

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Effective capabilities in developing and sustaining collegial collaboration
  • Experience with and/or willingness to participate in fundraising and/or grant writing to support innovations for student access and success
  • Record of progressively responsible administrative experience in an academic or research library
  • Experience in science and technology institutions
