Job Description


Role Summary:


  • Develop and oversee the company’s inventory management strategy with the aim of controlling costs, generating overall savings, rationalizing inventory and maximizing working capital.
  • Evaluate and optimize current procurement settings within GAINS to maximize the companies procurement planning process
  • Help define and ensure compliance with all policies and procedures dealing with physical inventory.
  • Identify supply chain optimization opportunities to help eliminate or minimize stock-outs on highest velocity items (Ex: A & B items) while also identifying complimentary slower moving items (C & D) that are integral in providing a complete customer focused inventory
  • Work closely with branch management to analyze current levels of inventory, overstock and dead stock to drive overall inventory performance (DIO and Turns) while optimizing inventory breadth and depth that corresponds to market conditions and sales forecasts.
  • Provide guidance for strategic inventory additions for branch locations and / or companywide by verifying the need for such additions. Work with branch personnel to determine alternative strategies to meet the needs of customers if or when such requests are denied.
  • Develop and implement innovative methods to dispose of obsolete inventory including the transfer of inventory between service centers where conditions are more favorable for sale. Enforce write-off policies of dead or obsolete stock when necessary.
  • Support company’s strategic vendor initiatives by purchasing from approved vendor list whenever possible (both stock and non-stock items)
  • Consult with branch management on decisions regarding the movement of items from a non-stock to stock classification.
  • Lead the company’s inventory performance plan by defining a routine process to assess inventory “health” across the organization and at the individual service center level (i.e. product line review, etc.).
  • Perform training within the procurement team to maximize inventory performance, to document standard processes and ensure full utilization of the GAINS software (Ex: Demand Planning module)
  • Review branch requests for new products and / or product lines by assessing local market conditions, supplier terms and conditions and sales strategy to approve or deny the requests.
  • Develop broad influence across the organization through the promotion of win-win outcomes within, among and across the management of Summit’s service centers.

Qualifications


Essential Qualifications and Experience:

  • Broad-based experience in the electrical industry including inventory, sales, and operations.
  • Experience using GAINS for inventory management and demand planning in an SAP environment
  • Thorough understanding of inventory management systems.
  • Understanding of the needs of manufacturers, customers, branch locations, and the end-user relating to inventory management.
  • Ability to evaluate trends in inventory levels along with financial and business indicators and translate into actionable information to drive results.
  • Selling style not a telling style of communication
  • Ability to make decisions, often difficult and/or unpopular, that support the organizational strategy and the ability to influence others to support those decisions.
  • Strong business skills and experience.
  • Exceptional communication and time management skills.
  • Must be able to work independently while partnering with internal customers to deliver exceptional service to all other Summit departments and external customers.
  • Must be able to develop and deliver business plans to branch management and executive leadership.
  • Team player, creative thinker with good follow-up skills and attention to detail.
  • BS degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or similar field and/or equivalent experience.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office suite.
  • Unwavering commitment to Summit’s values and mission.
  • Must possess a “whatever it takes” approach to work at Summit.

Beneficial Skills and Experience:

  • Solid knowledge of Summit’s product lines, and suppliers.
  • Previous successful supervisory experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft PowerPoint, Word and Excel.
  • Completed Bronze, Silver, and Gold level of EPEC series and other industry trainings.

Physical Challenges:

  • Consistent sitting for hours at a time.
  • Consistent use of keyboard and mouse.
  • Must be able to lift 5 pounds on a regular and consistent basis.
  • Ability to climb stairs on occasion.
  • Office based, corporate role with majority of time being regular work hours including some overtime as warranted.
  • Some travel required.
