As a key leader of the credit risk management team, the Director is responsible for developing, optimizing, and managing strategies for credit risk underwriting, risk-based pricing, portfolio management, debt collections, fraud analytics and loan loss forecasting. This individual will effectively partner with multiple cross-functional teams to implement and monitor strategy changes across Deserve’s organic and partnership based credit card programs. As a core part of their responsibilities, the individual will consistently seek opportunities to improve the profitability of Deserve’s card programs while maintaining credit risk at reasonable levels. The Director will be responsible for establishing short to medium term agendas, developing project plans, managing analysts and delivering analytical results through individual and team work.

The role presents excellent exposure to multiple business clients with unique business models seeking to engage in both consumer and small business lending. It is also highly visible with frequent interactions needed with senior management both within Deserve and its business partners.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and manage credit risk strategies that involve elements of credit underwriting, risk-based pricing, portfolio management, collections and overall portfolio economics.
  • Develop testing agendas to explore opportunities to underwrite incremental customer populations, understand price sensitivity and other customer behaviors.
  • Design A/B tests to help understand credit risk/return tradeoffs using hypothesis testing frameworks.
  • Develop monitoring frameworks and reporting on key performance indicators.
  • Use analytical and/or credit modeling techniques to mine loan performance data and identify opportunities for optimization of credit underwriting, credit line assignment, and risk-based pricing.
  • Partner with the data sciences team to identify and implement enhancements to existing risk models and in developing new prediction models.
  • Partner with Capital Markets, Product, Engineering, Compliance, Program Management and other functions to implement and monitor credit strategy changes.
  • Expand the existing set of data used in credit decisioning process by evaluating information value of non-traditional data sources and by re-engineering use of existing data elements.
  • Perform all responsibilities in accordance with Deserve competencies, compliance, regulatory and information protection requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, economics, mathematics or related disciplines.
  • Minimum eight years of experience in credit risk analytics and risk management, including people management.
  • Proficiency with analytical packages such as SAS, Python, Spark, Stata, MATLAB, Tableau, and/or R, and SQL required.
  • Familiarity with credit scoring modeling techniques including logistic regression, multivariate analysis and machine learning.
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills with a proven track record of business decision making.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate complex ideas and influence audiences in decision making.
