Director of Community Development
Job description
Plans, organizes and directs the activities of the Department to ensure Town goals and objectives are met. Responds to requests for information and provides technical support and policy advice to the Town Manager, decision-making bodies, committees, and other departments. Develops and proposes ordinances and policies related to planning. Represents the Town on regional planning issues. Prepares and administers long-range plans and grants. Responsible for processing land division applications and sub-division applications. Reviews and makes recommendations on land development proposals, including subdivisions, annexations, and commercial developments. Acts as a liaison to various committees, neighborhood groups, other departments and agencies. Interprets and administers the Town’s Land Use Code. Performs other related duties as assigned
Qualifications
NM Class D Driver’s License AICP Certification, preferred MA in planning or related field, or equivalent experience 5 years’ experience in planning, preferably in a public agency 1 year minimum supervisory experience
Special Requirements
Ability to plan, assign, supervise and review work of subordinates; excellent written and oral communication skills; political astuteness; familiarity with budgeting and financial matters; knowledge of federal, state and local laws governing planning, zoning and land use; ability to provide direction and recommendation on difficult procedural and administrative problems; grant-writing skills. Ability to pass drug and alcohol test.
