JOB DESCRIPTION

Executes a comprehensive career development program and promotes internships and future career opportunities for ORU students and alumni. Provides individual and group career counseling/coaching to students and alumni. Develops, plans, and oversees event activities that will include: Career Expos/job fairs, career exploration, job search strategies, resume workshops, mock interviews, classroom presentations, and educational partnership seminars. Prepares, markets, and presents materials required for these activities and other Career Services related events to students, faculty, and external organizations.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Cultivates existing relationships with external organizations and internal departments as well as develop new employer recruiting relationships that will provide employment and enrollment opportunities and/or mentoring relationships for students and Alumni. Oversee development and improvement of the online job database and accompanying modules.
  • Directs and participates in all counseling and professional development activities related to student career evaluations, preparation, and college to career transition. This will include the administration and interpretation of career and vocational tests; career and educational plan development; resume development and construction; and interviewing skills.
  • Develop and monitor written materials and professional competency programs utilized for career activities within the University and coordinate with key faculty relating to activities that may have a corresponding emphasis with careers and post graduate professional activities.
  • Manages the hiring, terminations, performance reviews, and job coaching of supervised employee(s) and department student workers. Oversees timecards and approvals through the Kronos timekeeping system. Determines staffing needs, schedules, distribution of workloads and projects, training, and individual goal setting.
  • Develop and oversee event activities that will include events: career expos/job fairs, networking events, workshops, classroom presentations, and educational partnership seminars. Prepare and present materials required for these activities and other events as needed.
  • Develop and maintain the marketing needs for the promotion of Career Services resources in partnership with Enrollment Marketing and External Affairs.
  • Serve on assigned committees and/or task forces for the purpose of collaboration with University areas to promote career and professional competency awareness needed for students.
  • Manage the accumulation of real-world experience and post-graduation employment surveys and articulate the results. Create and provide recommendations to key decision makers which promote various programs related to occupational or career activities.
  • Assist the Career Services team with job postings, paperwork processing for employment, and communication with campus hiring managers and student employees.
  • Continually analyze market and employment data from a variety of sources in order to provide accurate information to academic counselors, faculty, and administration regarding potential shifts within employment sectors concerning degree programs and elements required to match industry needs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Vice President of Enrollment Management.

REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION:

A Master’s degree is preferred with preference given to an ORU graduate.

EXPERIENCE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • A minimum of 3-5 years of progressively responsible experience in sales/recruitment/management in education or business, or related field required.
  • Demonstrated success in a performance-driven environment which utilizes metrics and measurements.
  • Self-starter who is results-oriented with outstanding problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to train staff on coaching students.
  • Ability to identify and resolve complex problems efficiently, effectively, and independently.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with demonstrated ability to work effectively with staff, students and all levels of University administrators, as well as external agencies/groups and the public.
  • Highly effective communicator, both orally (in person and by telephone) and in writing.
  • Capable of accomplishing multiple tasks within predetermined deadlines.
  • Ability to interpret, adapt, and apply guidelines and procedures.
  • Strong student-centered focus; commitment to student satisfaction and success.
  • Knowledge of career service standards and procedures.
  • Ability to multi-task, yet maintain close attention to detail, and timeliness of work production.
  • Ability to lead in a positive team-oriented manner with a variety of people. (Students, faculty, staff, administrators, vendors and members of the general public.)

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Travel may be required in regards to meeting with potential or current employers that interface with the department. A personal vehicle may be required. For trips requiring extended driving, vehicles are available through the University Motor Pool with advance notice.
