Job Title: Director, Adult Literacy

Reports To: Chief Program Officer


Supervises: None


Position Description: The Director, Adult Literacy is responsible for the oversight and coordination of Wesley’s Adult Literacy services including GED programming, Opportunity Youth services and Digital Literacy activities. The Director supervises multiple staff within the program, communicates with funders and community partners, and is responsible for grant compliance and evaluation of the department’s services.


Leadership

  • Responsible for overall leadership, management and evaluation of Wesley’s Adult Literacy staff and programs.
  • Works closely with the Chief Program Officer to implement the department’s strategic direction. Develops strategic partnerships and creates new programs as needs and funding opportunities change.
  • Serves as subject matter expert in the field of Adult Literacy and workforce development.
  • Maintains awareness of new developments in the field as they relate to Wesley services.
  • Works collaboratively with staff members, senior leaders, volunteers and others to achieve the goals of the organization
  • Communicates with clients and community stakeholders to understand needs, build community support and improve services.

Team Management and Development

  • Directs, plans, and coordinates the work of the adult literacy staff. Conducts regular training and team building activities.
  • Hires, trains, motivates, and develops employees; evaluates performance; addresses and resolves problems
  • Provides consistent team communication, maintaining a positive culture and supporting staff during organizational growth.
  • Works with staff to develop performance measurements across all programs, to ensure consistent, high-quality evaluation and goal setting for all employees.
  • Leads weekly departmental meetings to maintain effective communication.

Program Performance

  • Regularly analyzes program service data to ensure efficiency, quality, and positive impact on clients. Analyzes trends in the program results, identifies performance issues and develops solutions to recommendation to the CPO.
  • Prepares program reports for the board and grant and funder reports as required.
  • Assists with the preparation of proposals, grants, contracts, and ongoing reporting requirements.
  • Oversees and coordinates funder contracts, ensuring compliance and coordination. Provides accurate and timely reports to funders as required. Meets regularly with accounting to reconcile compliance.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree in public administration, education, social work or a related field and a minimum of 4 to 5 years’ experience managing programs and leading teams.


Work/Physical Requirements: This position requires the employee to work constructively and cooperatively in a team environment. Employee(s) in this position will work primarily in an office setting where they will interact with clients to help resolve issues; while also occasionally having to stand and walk to complete job duties. Must be able to lift and carry up to (25) pounds unassisted. Employee in this position may be required to work weekends in support of program services and special events.
