POSITION PURPOSE:

Global Imaging and Isotopes Strategy Director will ensure a foundation for sustainable profitable Imaging & Isotopes portfolio growth. With a focus on IM-US, bridge science and commercialization very early in the lifecycle, and co-create a future-focused, competitive portfolio and strategy to achieve Imaging & Isotopes leadership.

The incumbent will cross-functionally collaborate with the Global RLT Strategy & Growth (S&G), Medical, Access and Partnerships (MAP) and GDD/NIBR teams, to assess internal and external early candidates for IM-US and IMI, balancing the Imaging and Isotopes needs with the overall Innovative Medicine’s strategy.

The role will contribute to very early prioritisation and shaping of assets as a key partner to the NIBR organization, ensuring that the strategic alignment and input is embedded at key early development milestones (as early as the stage of development candidates).

MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES:

1. Developing an integrated Imaging and Isotopes strategy
  • Contribute to defining and driving goals and strategic objectives for Imaging and Isotopes leadership aspiration (i.e. the role Novartis should play in the RLT ecosystem & competitive landscape)
  • Contribute to the definition of Imaging and Isotopes pipeline and portfolio strategy: identifying gaps, prioritizing assets and making investment decisions across brands, ensuring continuous infusion of customer insights from key markets and priority healthcare system needs
  • Drive above-country Health Systems & Policy strategy (setting objectives, priorities, driving alignment across Imaging and Isotopes) and coordinated approach to stakeholder mapping and engagement across RSC where relevant (e.g. WHO, G20)
  • Contribute to strategic cross- DA/ brand alignment (alignment of strategy, positioning etc.)
  • Drive identification of Imaging and Isotopes specific capability gaps and ensure these are addressed (e.g., specific supply chain requirements)

2. Optimizing the Early Imaging and Isotopes Portfolio
  • Collaborate to assess early candidates for US-focus and enterprise strategic fit and guiding very early asset shaping incl. forecasting, commercial viability, unmet needs (esp. US), evidence strategy and LCM considerations to inform NIBR product strategy and very early value proposition in alignment with overall Innovative Medicine’s strategy
  • Work closely with key stakeholders (S&G, IM-US; MAP team; NIBR; GDD) to support commercial evaluations of portfolio programs, particularly at pipeline decision points
  • Co-develop credible recommendations to S&G partners to address portfolio gaps and identify externalization opportunities required
  • Collaborate to provide commercial input into BD&L, triaging of opportunities presented by S&G team, reviewing non-confidential information and decision to proceed to evaluate phase and conducting market research for opportunity sizing and business case preparation
  • Support fail-fast approach to ensure assets not reaching Innovative Medicine’s strategy and enterprise value criteria are closed out sooner and resources re-invested into new priorities

3. Collaboration
Successfully working within a cross-functional environment to achieve Imaging and Isotopes goals
  • Work in a diverse, high performance, cross-functionally matrixed team including identifying and integrating expertise and inputs required from other teams to ensure successful delivery (e.g., MAP, S&G)
  • Bring in functional expertise in cross-functional areas (commercial, medical, market access, development, finance, BD&L) to ensure appropriate focus dedicated to assets
  • Ensure appropriate compliance against company policies and procedures

Minimum requirements

Minimum requirements :
Mandatory:
  • At least 10 years senior level pharmaceutical commercial, marketing, medical, access, or R&D experience successfully driving growth of multiple brands and multiple therapeutic areas.
  • Experience of strategy development and asset shaping early in lifecycle (from any functional perspective – marketing, access, medical, clinical, R&D). For Executive Director roles, experience from at minimum two functions is required.
  • In-depth Imaging and Isotopes knowledge (or track record to acquire required Imaging and Isotopes expertise effectively and rapidly)
  • Proven experience credibly interacting and influencing research, drug development as well as BD&L stakeholders, with strong scientific background
  • A track record of successfully working with Commercial, Medical Affairs, Market Access, as well as Business Development & Licensing
Preferred:
  • Significant (3 years +) and recent (post 2015) local US experience preferred; local US experience includes working within the US market with the local US customers, US health care systems / systems of care, US payors / accounts, etc.), driving US market strategy.
  • Significant (3 years +) and recent (post 2015) experience in above country (regional or global) role
  • RLT experience
  • Minimum 3 years Oncology experience
  • Cross-functional experience (in particular, access, new products, and medical experience)
  • Strong scientific background beneficial
  • A track record in accurately forecasting / meeting projected revenue and budget targets

  • Strategic collaboration and cross functional leadership; effectively work in matrix balancing cross-functional perspectives and alignment with business priorities against flexible resourcing
  • Ability to truly collaborate with markets: serve-partner-co-create.
  • Able to navigate in an environment of shared outcomes and cross-business accountabilities
  • Courage to drive prioritization and enable focused work and investments
