Job Description Summary

BASIC FUNCTION :

Reporting to the Vice President, Student Affairs, provide leadership and supervision for all functions of University housing services including administrative, programmatic, and facilities to create a vibrant living, learning environment. Responsible for strategic direction related to the residential experience, facility management, and the business operations of a large-scale housing program. Establish goals and strategic planning to ensure effective and efficient operations which align with the University’s Strategic Plan and Key Performance Indicators. Responsible for ensuring clean and well-maintained facilities, student support and development services, as well as effective policies, programs, and procedures.

Ensure Residential Life programs that complement and support the mission of the University and enrich the quality of student life on campus. A top priority for the position is to build a Residential Life program that honors diversity and access and celebrates the engagement of all students. As an experienced, student-focused professional, of the highest integrity, foster excellent working relationships with all constituents of the University community and provide exceptional service. Serve on the Student Affairs leadership team.

Duties and Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

Ensure a quality housing and residential life program by administering all aspects of the University Housing and Residential Life system assuming overall responsibility for all facets of housing.

Provide visionary leadership of housing operations and residential education for continued growth and improvement by leading the development of short- and long-term goals for the department, assessing progress and working with internal and external consultants, as needed, to achieve these goals.

Promote a positive direction and mission for the department by developing, reviewing, and implementing appropriate policies and procedures to effectively operate the housing and residential life program.

Ensure fiscal responsibility and accountability by coordinating the preparation of the annual budget, authorizing the expenditure of housing funds, and ensuring overall budget control.

Oversee all housing facilities, ensuring properly maintained facilities by coordinating and monitoring the department’s regular preventative maintenance plans, refresh schedules, and replacement programs for optimal efficiency and quality of life for students and live-in staff.

Maximize occupancy in the housing and residential life system by ensuring marketing efforts, monitoring the application and assignment process, and providing quality services to students.

Oversee the hiring and employment of quality personnel by directly or indirectly participating in the selection and evaluation of housing and residential life employees.

Create just, equitable, inclusive communities where students feel welcomed and supported.

Establish and maintain positive relationships and lines of communication with faculty, staff, and students to ensure high-quality and engaging services that facilitate student success.

Facilitate a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures and backgrounds.

Ensure the development of an environment that fosters student development and enhanced educational opportunities through promotion of programs, active support of leadership opportunities, and financial support of student development opportunities.

Facilitate the resolution of emergency or critical situations by responding to such incidents involving residential students and serving as the departmental spokesperson.

Promote a positive image of the University and department, while ensuring current practices and issues in the field are addressed, by attending professional conferences, monitoring, and implementing, through research and education, current trends, and developments in the housing field.

Promote appropriate communication with all constituents by advising and counseling with students, parents, faculty, and staff about housing and residential life issues and concerns and coordinating timely departmental publications as needed.

Assess program outcomes and goal achievement by providing opportunities for student evaluation of housing and residential life and ensure the implementation of appropriate recommendations.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

Provide educational training programs to classes as requested.

Develop inter-departmental programs to promote the missions of the Identity-based centers and the Division of Community Equity and Diversity.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

LICENSES , TOOLS , AND EQUIPMENT :

Personal computers (Macintosh and PC), printers, Microsoft Office Suite, Housing Management software, WordPress, word processing, database management and spreadsheet software, Google Suite, and email content.

Required Qualifications
REQUIRED :

1. Master’s degree in higher education administration, student affairs, leadership, student development, college student personnel, counseling, or related field.

2. Minimum of seven years of progressive leadership experience in a university housing setting.

3. Demonstrated experience with development and management of a substantial budget.

4. Demonstrated knowledge of student development theory and its application to residential life.

5. Demonstrated leadership experience in the areas of strategic planning and program development.

6. Demonstrated experience in student conduct and case adjudication.

7. Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups/populations.

8. Demonstrated ability to build collaborative relationships across the campus and community.

9. Demonstrated supervisory experience.

10. Demonstrated ability to prepare and present detailed studies and reports and to make recommendations concerning their substance.

11. Demonstrated strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills.

12. Demonstrated proficiency in written communication skills.

13. Demonstrated experience in financial and facility planning and evaluation.

14. Demonstrated team building skills.

15. Demonstrated ability to coordinate numerous and varied projects.

16. Demonstrated ability to relate in one-on-one and group situations with persons representing diverse social and cultural identities and interests.

Preferred Qualifications
PREFERRED:

1. An earned doctorate in Higher educational leadership or related field.

2. Minimum of ten years of progressive experience in college/university housing administration.

3. Demonstrated experience working in a medium to large residential program.

4. Evidence of current membership and/or active involvement in related professional organizations.

5. Demonstrated experience with capital planning and construction projects.

6. Demonstrated experience developing and implementing culturally competent programs and services for diverse cultural populations.

7. Demonstrated experience in crisis management.
