POSITION SUMMARY

This position is located in Jerusalem, Israel. UJA-Federation of New York is seeking an experienced professional to assume the role of Director of Government Relations and Media in the Israel Office of UJA-Federation of New York.

The director will play a vital role in establishing this new department in the Israel Office which is located in Jerusalem. The goal of the department will be to develop and bolster relationships with the country’s political and public leadership in an effort to elevate the awareness, appreciation, and impact of UJA’s work and contribution to Israel. The director will play a lead role in raising UJA’s visibility and impact in a way that will further our goals and vision of Israel as a Jewish-democratic state that is vibrant, inclusive, and resilient.

Reporting to the General Director of UJA's Israel Office, the director will work intensively to create a media strategy for the Israel Office, including engaging and managing relationships with professional public relations, marketing, and branding experts and contractors, fostering productive relationships with media outlets. In addition, the director will champion UJA’s priorities in government ministries, with MKs, municipalities, and public figures, and play a central role in the strategic development of the advocacy efforts of the office within relevant areas. The director will develop and maintain a reciprocal relationship with the planning department within UJA, informing leadership of developments and opportunities in government and public discourse around issues that are relevant to our goals and mission.

The director will be responsible for developing and maintaining a variety of tools to build excellence in external relations and media, including using professional providers, which the director will supervise and provide management, guidance, and leadership. Measurable metrics will determine success in this role.

This is a full-time position based out of UJA’s Jerusalem office.

Main responsibilities

  • Developing and executing the media strategy of UJA's Israel Office and overall responsibility for the PR and marketing of the office, including maintenance of social networks and a periodic newsletter.
  • Developing and maintaining excellent professional relationships with policymakers and senior officials (including their staff) and journalists/media outlets to maximize impact and encourage collaboration with UJA.
  • Supporting the Israel allocation committees by seeking out relevant opportunities for our grantmaking from the network of relationships that the director will establish with both government and public figures and professionals. This includes informing leadership on government processes that are taking place in real-time on issues relating to our mission and working to leverage them; identifying opportunities for influence and joint collaboration with the central government & municipalities in the areas that interest us.
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues across the organization to maximize our investments, increase impact and respond to communal priorities. Provide information for network staff.
  • Working with the Marketing and Communications department in NY to increase the status and visibility of UJA's work in Israel; Be proactive in pitching ideas and stories for internal and external communications.
  • Representing UJA at a variety of organizations and community tables throughout the year.

Competencies and Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience and success in the public and governmental sectors.
  • Deep knowledge of the political and media fields.
  • Familiarity with the Jewish communities of North America
  • Excellent writing and verbal communication in both Hebrew & English.
  • Superior negotiation and facilitation skills.
  • Effective interpersonal skills, including the ability to build trust, mediate and resolve conflicts, and work constructively within a team.
  • Collaborative working style; Ability to think and act proactively.
  • Ability to work intensively for many hours, flexibility is required which may include evenings.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of related experience.
  • Master's degree preferred.
