Summary
The NFL’s Global Security Operations Center (GSOC) helps leadership understand internal and external events that impact the key metrics of its businesses. The objective is to respond more rapidly and effectively to information, whether it involves terrorism, criminal matters, brand sentiment, employee issues, or exigent circumstances.
The Director, Global Security Operations Center role will provide senior level expertise and leadership to manage all aspects of providing real-time awareness, rapid response, and critical analysis to support decision-making in defense of the NFL brand, its operating components, and its partners.
This is a critical role with overall technical operations responsibility and accountability to deliver best-in-class threat analysis and reporting to all of the NFL’s internal and external security stakeholders.
The successful candidate will bring industry thought leadership to drive the transformation of the NFL’s Global Security Operations Center toward next-generation operational capabilities with a focus on leveraging the latest innovations in software-defined threat analysis and reporting tools, virtualization and big data analytics.
This function reports to the Senior Vice President and Chief Security Officer.
Responsibilities
- The Director, Global Security Operations Center will provide senior leadership and expertise across all aspects of the NFL’s effort to monitor threats from terrorism and criminal matters, collect intelligence, perform impact analysis and report to key decision makers and stakeholders.
- The successful candidate will play a lead role in identifying and developing security programs to protect the most valuable assets of the NFL, to include critical business activities, physical infrastructure, human resources, intellectual property and business relationships.
- The candidate will develop, assess, and execute new initiatives to simplify, standardize and optimize threat monitoring operations methods and tools to reduce analysis and reporting times and increase security, availability, service agility, and global synergy across all NFL equities.
- More specifically, the primary responsibilities include the following:
- Establish best-practice methodologies for incident/change/problem management in a global, 24-hour, high-volume, high-availability, critical production environment.
- Develop and drive the development of innovative threat reporting operations processes and tools from concept to delivery with a focus on the latest innovations, virtualization and big data.
- Provide leadership to manage demands from projects and technology upgrades, including recommendations for vendor tools/solutions and global alignment of networks.
- Oversee operations projects including budgeting, planning, implementation, maintenance, administration, staffing and logistics.
- Keen understanding of budgets and financials, and measuring business value via leading-edge metrics.
- Mentor, manage and motivate a high-performing team of senior managers/analysts and/or senior professionals and set clear priorities to achieve department goals.
- Manage oversight of complex security operations processes based on a combination of vendors, custom solutions, and internal resources.
- Support adoption of new technologies and tools, and recommend capability improvements to threat analysis and reporting operations.
- Work closely with the Chief Information Security Officer to ensure that information security and risk management are embedded within the culture, requiring continuous improvement to a complex set of functions to coordinate security and compliance risks related to information systems and assets. Drive coordination, consensus and execution to mitigate cyber risk issues and emerging threats.
- Determine need for new products and systems based on budget, NFL needs, and improvements in technology.
- Analyze from a cost, capacity, and forecast perspective, and evaluate new security communications operations technologies and applications.
- Develop strategic roadmaps to ensure security communications goals are met.
- Work closely with other NFL departments, to include Information Technology, Football Operations, Legal, Finance, International, Management Council, NFL Films, NFL Network, Corporate Development, Consumer Research, etc. to proactively ensure security operations capabilities are capable of handling emerging and future business requirements.
- Participate in disaster recovery/business continuity activities, as needed.
- Other responsibilities may include the following:
- Advance security programs in support of teams and NFL-wide through government liaison with the federal intelligence and law enforcement community, including FBI, Homeland Security, Secret Service, State Department Diplomatic Service, and joint terrorism task forces.
- Identify, research and analyze the most prominent threats to the NFL’s business.
- Lead special project teams, as required.
- Conduct/assist in sensitive investigations as needed.
- Assist with annual security presentations for clubs.
- Liaison with other sports leagues and sports industry associations.
- Assist clubs with security issues involving offices, club facilities, operational locations, owners' meetings, Draft, Super Bowl and International Series Games.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university.
- 6+ years of related experience in law enforcement, strategic planning and or operations for public safety, security or military operations.
- Deep experience in developing and executing security programs (from policy to operations).
- The ideal candidate should be a person with both operational and management skillsets to include strong leadership skills and solid background in intelligence collection, threat analysis, security communications tools and technologies.
- Proven track record of driving change and transformation in security operations processes, tools and technologies through an evidence-based operational improvement and decision-making approach to best meet security objectives and priorities.
- Experience working with highly-effective engineering teams through major technology.
- Demonstrated understanding of tools and technologies in the security communications operations ecosystem.
- Prior experience in a dedicated role around defining security operations strategic planning.
- Must have basic technical knowledge and demonstrate the core fundamentals of latest innovations in threat monitoring and reporting technologies.
- Demonstrated consistent and steady growth in career.
- Excellent communicator and able to drive consensus across diverse/global security stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree preferred (Masters / JD).
Other Key Attributes / Characteristics
- Proven track record as a strong communicator – written and oral presentations, capable of rapidly creating detailed written reports
- Advanced knowledge and experience with various social media platforms, OSINT, and related software
- Expertise in Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Strong analytical skills
Physical Demands
- Role may require long periods of standing, climbing stairs and walking in connection with NFL game and stadium operations
Travel
- Travel to all NFL stadiums and facilities
- Travel to advance security programs and initiatives
Salary / Pay Range
This job posting contains a pay range, which represents the range of salaries or hourly rates that the NFL believes, in good faith, at the time of this posting that it might be willing to pay for the posted job. The NFL expects to hire for this position near the middle of the range. Only in truly rare and exceptional circumstances, where an external candidate has experience, credentials or expertise that far exceed those required or expected for the position, would the NFL consider paying a salary or rate near the higher end of the range.
Terms / Expected Hours of Work
- NFL employees are required to work 40 hours per week.
