The Director/Executive Director of Diversity and Inclusion reports to the Vice President for Student Engagement, Enrollment and Marketing and is responsible for the leading the Center for Diversity and Inclusion, and informing efforts to support Truman State University’s enduring commitment to forming and strengthening socially just learning and working environments that foster a culture of excellence by engaging diverse people, ideas, perspectives and the community. At Truman, diversity embraces the range of human difference, social identities, and social group differences, including but not limited to race, ethnicity, creed, color, sex, gender, gender identity, sexual identity, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, language, culture, national origin, religious or ethical values system, age, physical ability or attributes, (dis)ability, military/veteran status, political perspective, and associational preferences.

Collaborating with students, faculty, and staff, the Director/Executive Director of Diversity and Inclusion will develop and implement culturally relevant programs, initiatives, training, and activities that promote and sustain an inclusive environment in which members can achieve their full potential by fostering a sense of respect, belonging, affirmation, and safety. The Director/Executive Director of Diversity and Inclusion will support enrollment and retention efforts to ensure a diverse community. By providing guidance to university leadership and supporting the work of the university’s Diversity and Inclusion Strategic Plan, the Director/Executive Director of Diversity and Inclusion will strengthen inclusive excellence efforts.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

· In collaboration with campus partners, develop and implement programs, initiatives and training that promote a thriving diverse and inclusive campus where all students and employees feel can succeed.

· Supervise the Program Coordinator to design inclusive engagement and mentoring opportunities that support diverse students at all levels of their development.

· Serve as a resource for faculty, students, staff, and administrators for inclusive excellence.

· Build and sustain relationships with members of the campus community.

· Inspire and support a culture of belonging across all members of the campus community.

· Support the development and implementation of strategies to recruit and retain a more diverse community of students, staff, and faculty.

· Advise university leadership on matters related to inclusive excellence.

· Work closely with the Vice President areas and Schools to help guide strategic initiative and tactic implementation in line with the university’s Diversity and Inclusion Strategic Plan.

· Monitor diversity and inclusion metrics to ensure improvements in the strategic tactics established in the university’s Diversity and Inclusion Strategic Plan.

· Collaborate on obtaining external funding support via grants, foundations, and philanthropic partners.

· Serve on appropriate University committees as requested.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

· Baccalaureate degree

· Three or more years of experience working in higher education

· Demonstrated administrative experience in the management of professional and student staff, budgets and other resources in a college or university environment

· Demonstrated record of accomplishment in advancing diversity and inclusion strategies and initiatives

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

· Master’s degree

· Three or more years of experience working with diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts in higher education

Any combination of acceptable education and experience, which provide the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively fulfill the requirements of this position, may be considered. The tile of Director of Diversity and Inclusion or Executive Director of Diversity and Inclusion will be determined based upon the totality of the candidate’s credentials.
