This person manages Social Workers and Therapists under general direction of the Chief Executive Officer and Medical Director.

Job Description
The Director of Clinical Services coordinates and supervises clinical management, social work, therapy and case management services for the facility (Acute, Residential, and Group Homes). This person manages Social Workers and Therapists under general direction of the Chief Executive Officer and Medical Director.

- Serve as a role model for quality patient care and support an environment conducive to professional growth.
- Participate in developing, interpreting and implementing hospital and departmental philosophy, objective standards, policies, and procedures.
- Recommend a balanced staffing pattern with qualified and competent persons that address continuity of care, acuity needs, and census.
- Works in close collaboration with referral sources to ensure awareness of bed availability and have direct input into admission screening, discharge and aftercare planning, and maintains census at specified levels for all levels of care.
- Develop and implement cost-containment efforts for the social work and therapy department; responsible for recommendations for space and other resources needed by the department in conjunction with Hospital Administration.
- Assure Quality Improvement Program for assigned unit and assist as needed.
- In collaboration with the Risk Manager and Unit Managers investigates critical incidents and complaints from patients, personnel and other departments and keep Hospital Administration informed.
- Conducts investigations as appropriate and does so in a timely fashion
- Serve on hospital committees as requested by administration or required by regulatory standards, directed at improving communication coordination and quality patient care.
- Participate in inter-departmental and intra-departmental activities directed at improving communication, coordination and quality patient care.
- Make rounds on the units daily or as needed. Assure therapeutic and safe environment, patient’s rights, the nursing process, safety, and patient participation in their care.
- Plan, develop, and coordinate the needs of the program with other disciplines, activities, and programs. Provide for staff support and assess integration of efforts in conjunction with Administration. Evaluate the effectiveness of all programs and make recommendations and changes as indicated.
- Utilize Director of Nursing as a resource to address nursing issues and concerns.
- Meets regularly with Managers to review staff supervision issues and conduct supervisions together. Assures documentation is completed thoroughly.
- Redirect staff who utilizes loud or harsh tone of voice complete document appropriately.
- Meet with Program Managers and residents at least every two (2) weeks to assess program needs and allow feedback
- Review problem-solving forms with Managers and Patient Advocate regularly and in a timely fashion.
- Handles any performance issues with Program Managers and addresses necessary issues as appropriate.
- Assure continuing staff effectiveness for assigned area of responsibility and provide counseling and guidance to individual staff. Provide on-going feedback to staff regarding their performance and formally evaluate staff on an annual basis per human resources.
- Conduct regularly scheduled staff meetings to keep staff informed; identify employee concerns, resolve conflicts and provide the opportunity for input from staff in conjunction with Manager. Thorough minutes are written.
- Responsible for determination of the qualifications and competence of therapy and social science personnel in conjunction with the Managers and assist in interviewing prospective staff.
- Consistently demonstrate competence in day-to-day scheduling of duties by completing tasks on time with little assistance from others as required. Delegates duties as appropriate; attends all mandatory employee in-service as scheduled.
- Observe hospital policy concerning smoking, telephone usage and other related rules governing conduct at work.
- Consistently exhibit a positive attitude when dealing with others in day to day situations.
- Recognize and perform duties that need to be performed, although not directly assigned; regularly help co-workers.
- Maintain and adhere to facility employee attendance guidelines.
- Provides in-service and staff development for staff. Supervises social work and therapy staff consistent with department and hospital standards to achieve department objectives.
- Contributes to overall treatment team process by assisting in developing plans of care, formulating and reviewing plans and attending daily treatment team meetings. Involves referred sources in treatment process and follow-up care.
- Responds and handles crisis situations under direction of MD or charge nurse.
- Maintains accurate and precise documentation: progress notes, MTP’s, psychosocial history, discharge assessments and plans, charge sheets, and statistics. Completes documentation per P&P and in a timely manner. Provide direct care; utilize appropriate social work knowledge and skills in providing treatment to patients and their families.
- Adheres to all policies and procedures of the hospital including OSHA 29C.F.R.Pat 1910.1030; blood-borne pathogens, including the appropriate use of personal protective equipment.
- Understands and demonstrates knowledge of Treatment of Care between acute, residential, and group home (age specific), and attends all mandatory unit meetings.
- Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of National Patient Safety Goals, and the policies and standards of accreditation entities including but not limited to Joint Commission, DMH, DHR, and CMS.
- Performs other duties as assigned
Job Requirements:
- Master’s degree in Social Work, with a minimum of 3 years post master’s relevant clinical experience required
- Motivation and initiative to motivate, educate, and deal with performance problems as needed.
- MSW obtained from a School of Social Work accredited by CSWE
- Current Alabama State license as an LCSW
- Ability to establish rapport with multiple disciplinary teams
- Experience on an in-patient psychiatric unit and RTC preferred.
- Demonstrate knowledge of normal growth and development of the population served.
- Demonstrate knowledge in teamwork and effective problem solving skills.
- Prior management/supervisory experience.
- CPI, 1st Aid, CPR training and certification required
