Job Opportunity:

Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) has an exciting opportunity for a Director of Development to join its Claims Information Technology team in Boston, MA. The Director is a senior level position who is responsible for planning, facilitating, coordinating, and supporting the execution of system initiatives at the Program level. The role will engage with multiple systems teams to coordinate project objectives, scope, timelines, deliverables, and dependencies. The role will drive the execution of these projects with a focus on delivery, status tracking, issue identification and risk management. Communication to senior leadership and across all teams is essential. The execution of timely system/ business initiatives with quality is at the core of the Director’s responsibilities.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Manage/coordinate/prioritize a portfolio of Claims IT projects with a high degree of complexity across the BHSI Enterprise and integrate into release cycles
  • Develop, maintain, and manage to project plans. The focus is on Solution Delivery
  • Be accountable for project results
  • Directly manage staff on best practices and project delivery and coordinate with Analysis and Development teams for project execution
  • Develop and maintain key project documents: project charter, scope, detailed work plans, timelines, issue logs, status reports, Gantt charts, budgets, meeting agendas and meeting minutes
  • Actively engage with all project team leaders to solicit their ideas, confirm expectations, communicate commitments, and proactively drive the projects forward
  • Act as a mediator and facilitate dialogue when projects hits roadblocks
  • Effectively manage project scope by ensuring changes are clearly defined, discussed and agreed too
  • Track and report on project milestones, solicit status from team members and provide a consolidated view of project status, schedule, risks and issues
  • Educate and coach system teams on software delivery methodology
  • Monitor the changes and advancements in technology to discover ways the organization can maintain a competitive advantage
  • Strength in identifying opportunities to improve processes or utilize automation or self-service to drive efficiencies

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • Minimum of ten years of experience in leading and managing complex systems delivery projects
  • Experience coordinating teams of employees and local & off-shore consultant resources
  • Adept and eager to becoming an expert in the business use and technical architecture of the platform
  • Business background in Commercial P&C Insurance
  • Prior experience working with Guidewire, Duck Creek, Cover-All, other P&C Claims vendor package a plus
  • Hands on style with strong problem solving abilities and a keen attention to detail
  • Quick learner with ability to adapt to a changing environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of executives, subject matter experts and vendor resources
